new plastics
new plastics
The plastics on my hawk came a little scuffed up. Nothing major, but enough knicks and scratches that makes me want to replace the two sides of the front.
Does anyone have any experience with buying fairing?
Is it better to try and buy new and then paint, or try to find used for sale?
And what do you think I should expect to pay?
Right now I am tossing around the idea of freshening up the hawk, or adding a tiller to the stable.

Use the search function, there is a ton of great info. for you here. www.ronayers.com has plastics, new for a pretty penny. Or you can just be extremely patient like me and wait for that great deal. This forum, craigslist, and eBay are good places to start.
I know a few places to buy them, rather I am more curious about peoples experiences. Especially with those buying used.... so, when you got it, did the color match? Was it a pain to ship, do you wish you had just bought new instead...
These are the types of things I am hoping to learn.

I bought a complete fairing from a member on this site, thanks "nothing". My right side cowl was cracked from the prev. owner. I rode it that way for a year, until I came across the fairing in the classifieds on the SH forum. I have a 2002, the fairing was off an older SH. The red on the '02 was a little darker, probably just not as faded. People do not notice until I point it out. Keep an eye out on the forum classifieds & Ebay.
I bought 2 new front fairings from Ronayers.com due to me being careless around the driveway. They had the best price I could find and got them in less than a week. 1st (left) one about five years ago, 2nd (right) a year ago. They come painted (order the right paint code!) and the color matches my '98 perfectly, although my bike is garaged with no fading. When you add up the trouble to find a used one in supposedly perfect condition, or repair and paint or have it painted, it was worth it to me. No hassle, just bolt them on and my bike looks brand new again. I like instant gratification!
If you try to paint some other color to your color it is never going to be quite right. It is worth looking for good condition stock replacements of the same color as they will match up. Any slightly off paint stuff will kill resale value & possibly your self esteem while riding (& who needs that?)
