new battery and still dies out

I have a 1998. I just put a new battery in and it keeps dieing on me. Is the regulator or the stater that need to be replaced?

Could be either. Both are very common problems. I would bet on the Regulator/Resistor. The shop just informed me that it is my R/R that went. I am picking it up and replacing it myself.

buy a r6 or r1 R/R and look in the knowledge section and replace it yourself. It took very little time to install.

This is a link for the swap from the stock R/R to an '01 R6/ R1 unit. The Honda's have problems because they are small and prone to overheating. The Yamaha R/R's are larger with cooling fins. Think you have to modify the location slightly as it is larger than stock.

P.S. make sure if you get the Yamaha (about $80 vs. well over $100 for a Honda) that you get one that will fit the '01 Yamahas. The newer R/R's for the fuel injection models have a different wiring setup and won't work.

the r6/r1 r/r swap is very easy and doesnt take very much time at all. it is a definite upgrade.
