My first mod on the Hawk

My first mod on the Hawk
Yesterday I started the LED taillight mod and completed it today. Although there was a vast amount of info on this, I took my own route.
I picked up a Blazer brand taillight assembly from Wallyworld, I wanted to keep my stock tailight as it was so I ordered a clear taillight off of Ebay. I wanted the LED assembly to seat as far back as possible in the housing assembly so I proceeded to remove a lot of material from the housing. After a lot of cutting and grinding I now have it mounted flush to the existing bulb housings. I like how it sits way back in the housing and really like the effect of the lights.
Anyway just wanted to say thanks for the info that got that project stuck in my head and now to look on to the next one which is probably some vinyl work. These are a few ideas that I cut out on the plotter and now I need to figure out which I want and where.

Oh, by "first mod" do you mean you havent done the regulator or ccts? You should shelve all other projects til you get those done. Unless you want to flash your new tail light while pushing the bike. (which is hardly ever cool/ fun)

I do have the regulator & CCTs to do. I am in no rush as I figure I have 2 or 3 more months downtime before she ever gets riden much.
The CCT job kind of worries me, I have read about a 50/50 result on this forum as to them being done without jumping time.

It's not as bad as some the nightmare stories you hear. Just follow the directions, remove both valve covers, and make sure the cams aren't in contact with the buckets when you remove the CCT.

I'm with 98VTRider on this issue. You mostly read about problems that people have because they find a need for help AFTER making an error. Be certain that there are many many others out there who do the work and never post about it, riding off into the sunset.
BTW, nice taillight!

i had the led tail light with turn signals, the leds started on the fritz. they would work sometime and then not. turnsignals in the light were fine. so i took it out and went back to stock. i hate getting pulled for a tail light question.
something to remember if the tail light is not dot approved the car that hits u from behind, insurance might investigate it. my company USAA group ask me lighting questions when i insured it. after asking her why. she stated that if a ensureree hits a MC they investigate the workings on the bike, due to "many modify lights and such for special looks. " and if they do not display dot aproval then the motorcyclist is partly at fault due to improper equipment and will have to pay some for his or her own injuries.. the inspection at the garage is supposed to look at this but we all know this doesn't happen... she also said that there was a crack down on custom/supped up cars.
this issue also spills over into the government health insurance bill/takeover.
