Last track day of the year, Hawk vs. MV F4
Just finished my last track day of the year today. SUPER-hawk ran great. Got to demo an MV Augusta F4 during the lunch break. Nice bike. Kind of busy (not used to the HIGH rpm needed to stay smooth). Guess I'm lazy after the Hawk. Anyway, brakes are unbelievable! I mean, when you grab some lever, be braced or you're getting launched! Super planted in sweepers. Only on it for 20 minutes or so. I sure could get used to that bike!
Jim, check out brake upgrades in a search, a MC and calipers from a RVT (RC51 / VTR1000SP2) with the right pads and a good bleed will help a lot along with some .85 ~ .90 RT springs, 3.5"+/- preload spacer and 5w Silkolene syn fork fluid with a fork brace will also do wonders for front en feel and response. And a Penske or Ohlins shock...
Oh man. The sound of that F4. Tell me that is not the sweetest symphony of an internal combustion engine you have ever heard!
My Bro and I were at Bellevue MotoSports in June of this year, and the owner started up his personal bike for us. It sounds like a Ferrari on steroids. Not that the Buell 1190RX we test rode didn't sound and feel wicked in its own right, but the F4 was cool. The Buell was also the Owners personal bike, and he told us he preferred it over the F4 at the track. I can see why, the torque that thing has is intoxicating. Enuf said.

Nothing stirs my soul (on 2 wheels) more than a pissed off twin. I did ride with a guy on a Tiger 1050, it sounded cool but just not angry at the world.
The mapping on the F4 seemed close to my VFR in that the open and close of throttle was abrupt vs. a carb. This was just for me as I was having to get used to it at speed on the track. I'm sure I would get used to it. With 195 HP, the straights were quite short and the brakes really came in handy! I do plan on upgrading the front and rear end, including the brakes Brett. I will be depending on your knowledge bank to help the process along.
