Landing gear

I am looking for some ideas on installing landing gear on my Superhawk. I have limited motion in my hips and have a hard time getting off the pegs at stop signs and lights. Don't want to fall over because I couldn't get my leg down. So was wondering about installing some kind of landing gear I could deploy before stopping. Would appreciate any ideas any of you may have on this.

I just saw this exact thing on a Harley last year. Was riding behind him and wondered what the heck those wheels were for. He pulled up to the stop light and they dropped down, pretty quickly too (took less than 2 sec). It didn't look homemade and didn't look like it took up much space either.

So, either the guy was a great fabricator or companies make them. I'll see what I can find online for ya.

Ive seen this on Utube for a racer but a big version.

My partner for which Im building a custom bike could do with this as she has some disability. I watch with interest.

Of all things, the website is called Landing gear

Edit: This is exactly what I saw last year, but the wheels didn't have the fenders and the wheels were really skinny with tires that didn't look pneumatic. Click here.

While looking at this stuff, I had a few questions. What would happen if you came to a stop and the road had a slight tilt to it? Or, you had to stop on the side of the road in the gravel and one of the landing gear wheels sunk into a soft spot in the ground? Around here, there are potholes everywhere. Some big enough to bend wheels if you hit them. What if a landing gear came to rest above a pot hole?
Just some food for thought is all.

Those are the same concerns that I have. Just getting in and out of my driveway would be a problem. Skids may be better than wheels. Something with a bigger foot print.

Wow this is an amazing thread. Such a cool idea. I have always kinda liked trikes for this reason. They let someone get out on a bike that may otherwise not be able to.

Have you seen Doug Henry's setup? He hammers his dirt bike over jumps with a roll cage on it. Anything that lets someone ride is a great thing.

Along these lines, check out the custom shifter I had made for my beloved. Like a throttle but back twist changes up, forward shift changes down. Clutch lever twists as well.

This was made by a one armed guy in england.

Servo deployed "landing" gear have been around for over 20 years. They are programmed to deploy and retract at slow speeds. Great idea to extend your riding career!!

Do you have any names of companies or links to help out?

its almost 3 years since her crash and she has been gagging to ride again the whole time. Now she has healed enough to hold a bike up I will start getting this together. Probably get started today. Her left ankle is now fused so a normal gear shift will not work. Had to put bar risers on and change brake lines. This bike is her track day one. Im building a CBR600 F2 for road use.
