Laguna MotoGP WoooHooo!
Laguna MotoGP WoooHooo!
Wow, what a GREAT weekend we just had here at the MotoGP! Amazing Monterey summer weather at about 70 deg F. and a cool breeze. I won't spoil the results for those that haven't heard, but the USA riders did "O.K.".
The fans were awesome in turnout numbers (153,000 plus total for the weekend) and 57,000 alone for Sunday's main event.
The bike-night on Saturday at Cannery Row in Monterey was terrific, and extremely well-attended.
The vendor areas at the track featured a vast number of tents and the paddock (if you had a pass) was truly fantastic. USGP is the only venue that offers paddock access so far...very special.
I personally saw the following guys up close and got some great photographs: Freddie Spencer, Mick Doohan, Kevin Schwantz, The Hayden Boyz and Dad Earl, Max Biaggi, Giacomo Agostini, Eddie Lawson, Wayne Rainey, and a WHOLE bunch more including celebs.
My only complaints about the weekend are about traffic contol to and from the track. I will be offering my suggestions to SCRAMP in the next day or two. Nothing much...just some dedicated routes for BIKES only, BUSES only and CARS only. Individual routes will offer great advantages for each vehicular group.
Cheers,
BKL

Sweet man, I hope ya had an awesome time. I know I had a great time just watching all the action on TV, so you must have! Maybe next year I can make it out, but for sure one of the years that are under contract right now... what is it 6 years? I forget.
Re: Laguna MotoGP WoooHooo!
I was there Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Depending on which route you were on into or out of the track, the traffic could SUCK!!!
I think Laguna Seca / SCRAMP was way underprepared to manage the number of people who showed up. Traffic planning and control, and parking, were not well handled.
But, the racing was really good.
The Moto GP event lacked excitement as far as passing. If it weren't for Colin Edwards two fantastic passes, it would have been uneventful (except for poor Melandri crashing in turn 11 on first lap and taking Barros out with him).
It was really cool to see Hayden and Edwards do so well. Rossi seemed quite the gentleman (after complaing on Friday that the track wasn't safe)
I thought I was prepared, but wasn't.
240 hp and open exhaust, multiplied many times, was AMAZING!
That was some SERIOUS "get up and go!"
The AMA races were more exciting that the GP race - to me at least. More passess and more suspense. The Superbikes were only about 2 seconds / lap slower than the GP bikes.
That is a LOT of money spent to buy 2 seconds.
Perhaps most impressive: Randy Mamola riding folks around the track on the back of a Ducati GP bike, wheelieing loonnnggg distances down the straight in front of the paddock- all at serious speeds.
He was NOT just crusing around the track.
Seeing a cute little blond headed girl, glued to his back, with the front wheel 2 feet in the air, for a hundered or so yards, at 140+ mph.... made my butt pucker just watching it!
All in all, a great weekend.
