Kids change EVERYTHING...

My wife and I welcomed our twin girls on April 13th, her first (and second) and I have a 5 yr old from a previous that lives with us full time. I took my first extended ride (beyond commuting to work) today that was maybe 120 miles round trip. Now, it used to be when I would take off for a ride it was typical for her to tell me to have fun. I counted at least five times that she told me to be careful. Not once to have fun...
I guess we're not allowed to have fun once we have kids. Glad I waited until I was 30 to have my first; that's enough fun for one lifetime, right?

I became more focused on riding better and faster after we had our little girl. I don't know why, maybe because every time I could find to head out was a gift to take full advantage of. I enjoyed it more because there was even more reason to head home too. I never really did stupid stuff and I still don't, but I ride harder now.

I noticed how much I started looking into armor and leathers after my daughter was born. Didn't realize that I was looking at it more after that time. I guess I was "growing up" or probably just unknowingly trying to be safer. Yea, that's it... Trying to be safer. Because I'm growing older but not up. No that my Daughter has turned 7, my wife said she has been mentioning that she wants to go for a motorcycle ride with me. Now I guess we start getting gear for her...

My wife and I had our first kid, a boy, in December. I've had a couple 50 mile runs, but mostly ride to work and home since he was born. She's always told me to be careful when I leave. Corn, I'm like you. I've become more focused on riding better and never did the stupid stuff.

At least she lets you keep the bike. I'm amazed at how many wives make their husbands sell their rides. My wife likes to ride with me. It's just a little harder to plan a time to ride together now.

I have to agree with Cornandp, the ventures out are few and far between for me right now and I understand wanting to get home just a little faster. The terrible part for me was I'm so used to using the bike only for commuting purposes that I started getting sore after about an hour of riding and any speed above 70 seemed excessive.
I guess it's gonna be about finding a balance for now; my wife works full time too so it seems a tad unfair expecting her to stay home so I can go ride.

About 4 years ago I had a ZX-7, it was nearing the end of riding season so I took it out for a day long ride. I pulled over to stretch at some point and checked the time, my wife had sent me a text that said to call home asap. I had no service where I was and was about 120 miles from home. I hauled *** to the next town and called home. She told me that my son was running a fever of 103. At that point I was 90 miles from home. I arrived at home an hour later and took him to urgent care to find out it was a fever associated with teething...but I felt so bad that I put the bike in the garage and didn't ride it the remainder of that season and ended up selling it the following spring.

poppazuti, congrat's on your twins!! My twins (girls) just turned 7 yesterday, the 26th. I was told you get your life back as they get older, I guess that's why I got my SH. When I had a chance to go out for a couple of hours, I would have to choose between my 911 or my motorcycle. So, I sold the bikes...

My wife likes to ride with me too. Her birthday is coming up at the end of August and I asked her about having her mom or sister come out to watch the kids (we don't have any trustworthy family nearby) so we could take an overnight trip down to Ashland or over to Bend...her reply, "I don't want to be that far away from the girls"... Guess those days are gone for awhile.

Congrats on the twins. Yeah, my wife and I have an agreement that once a baby is on the way, the hawk has to find a new home. Which I think is a good idea. When you have a family that you provide for speed suddenly doesn't seem so important. But you can bet I will still be on here bench racing.

LOL, I just saw a Porsche Boxster for sale for under 12k that I thought about looking at. Thanks for the congrats. One thing I've learned since having twins is that they're not all that rare, they really seem to come out of the woodwork. And you feel like you're on display EVERYWHERE you go.

We were at the mall and saw a guy pushing a triple stroller, I walked up to him and said, "You are more of a man than I'll ever be!!!" 3 of them, damm.... Just for the record, my girls are all over the SH!!! I have to give them rides around the block after I come home from a ride. You see things differently when your a parent.

I could never do that... riding fits me too well.

There is however fixes for the whole providing thing. Like life insurance and disability insurance. Something you never want to use, but even if you don't have a bike is a really good idea when kids are in the picture.

Agreed...I love my kids more than anything but some times daddy just needs to get away and unwind. The superhawk is just the ticket for that

Kids do take time from your riding, but for me owning a home and doing a remodel myself was the nail in the coffin for riding for a few years. Son is 11 now and old enough to take out for a ride with me now. I sneak out early on the weekends to ride mostly while the family sleeps in.

Amen brother. And when weather doesn't permit (9 months out of the year in Oregon) I always have my jeep to go out and thrash around in. Damn, I must have a cool wife to have 2 impractical vehicles!

My thoughts exactly. I don't ride over my head, but I haven't slowed down since I had kids and I don't think about them when I'm riding.
