Jardine or D&D

So I have a tight budget (under $700) for some cans. I'm wondering if I should get the highmount Jardine (aluminum) for $650, or the D&D low (same) for $460. Any (most) suggestions appreciated.

They both sound good but I like the look of the high mounts. Can't really go wrong.

I just ordered Staintune high mounts to replace the D&D low mounts that the PO installed. The D&Ds looks nice, and appear to be well made, but boy are they LOUD! If you go that way, I suggest the PAIR removal to limit the decel pops. I ordered this kit from ebay, but I have not received it yet:

I've always disliked the look of the stock mid mounts and low mounts on this bike, high mounts look super sekksy to me and is kinda with the new trend.

for around $700ish, you should be able to get some Devil Pipes....great quality and sound. might be able to save a few bucks and get them used

I think Devil stopped US sales or something like that. I read somewhere, maybe even their site, that there is some kind of an issue.

Any of the slip ons will work good, just find the one you thinks looks best and decide if you want real loud or kind of loud.....lol

Also remember to go to #48 pilots when you install the slip ons to go with the other carb work we did.

Cheers,
Mike

Well gee, whos gonna do that work for me...............? I havn't the slightest idea how to do that. Can it be done with just a little mechanical intelligence and a manual? I watched the carbs come apart, not too complicated. BTW yes I have the APE's, maybe you could take another trip! Which one's are real loud and which ones are kind of loud??

You could always buy Jardine's mids for their high mounts and put the D&D's on them. I have Jardines with the street baffle and they could be a little more aggressive in tone.

Lol if that's a tight budget you're set I just bought a pair of Erions off ebay that just needed some lovin' for $25.

D&D's are a bit louder. I once went from those to the round black jardines and was immediately 1k rpm higher everywhere bc they were quieter. The D&D's were also used and the Jardines new so that may have been partly to blame. If you're really on a budget I'd do a bafflectomy until you can find a nice used pair for half the price. A little elbow grease can make just about anything look new.

$25 is pretty cheap! I've seen some pics of your bikes however and some lovin could mean a lot of things! I've been watching ebay and not having much luck. Almost everything I see used is oem. Maybe I'm searching wrong, that wouldn't be anything new.

Oh thanks-actually just shortened 'em a bit, new emblems and a good polishing. Already sold them. Best part was the guy I bought them from didn't believe they were the same pipes when I sent him a few pics. At first I thought he was joking but I even emailed him pics of the piece of can I cut out-no dice he thought I was mistaken lol.

Yeah well that's really cheap but they did look like hell when I got them. To be more realistic though I paid @$500 for a basically brand new pair of high mount LeoVince carbon high mounts-guy bought them, went broke and took them right back off. I guess that's the benefit of being in the hobby for awhile though is eventually stuff turns up. But I've bought and sold a bunch of different exhausts over the last few years. Have found some real nice ones for a few hundred-devils, several two bros, D&D's, jardines, etc. Check out the Yoshi's on ebay they look to be in pretty nice shape and are priced pretty fair too. Another route worth a shot as they get harder to find is to see who's selling a superhawk near you-or anywhere. If they have an exhaust you like offer to buy them off their bike and send them your stock pipes. Like anything else you're sure to find someone who'll do it-it's how I got my gilles rearsets for cheap.

This search:

(exhaust,muffler,slipons,"slip ons") (vtr1000,"vtr 1000",vtr996,"vtr 996",vtr1000f,vtr996f,superhawk,"super hawk",firestorm,"fire storm")

the search resulted in 17 hits from sellers, and 45 hits from ebay stores for exhausts.

I should be listing my D&Ds in a couple of weeks. I need to take a close look at them to see what they might be worth. I also have a set of stock cans with the baffles removed - they came with my bike from the PO. I will list them too at some point. Once my Staintunes arrive, I will attend to this. PM me if you have any interest.

search under "exhaust" and "pipes" as well as under "superhawk" and "vtr 1000" with different combinations. You get a different mix each time!

No quotes, I just used them so the words would stand out. I don't know why but if you actually search with specific brands they will pop up as well. I haven't mastered the whole searching thing on ebay either.

first go to ebay Motors -> Parts & Accessories -> Motorcycle Parts

then copy the string into the search box and hit enter

Note: the quotes mean look for exactly with is in the quotes "super hawk" will only match the string in that exact order. So it will hit super hawk in the title, but not hawk super. terms in (parens) are OR os "superhawk,"super hawk") will find titles that include superhawk OR super hawk. spaces mean AND so exhaust (superhawk,"super hawk") will return tiltes that include the word exhaust AND superhawk OR super hawk. Which expanded out means find:

exhaust and superhawk

OR

exhaust AND super hawk

Experiment a bit. JB

I have Yoshi's RS-3 Oval SS standard mounts. They are awesome! Everyone loves the sound, especially me. I paid $599 including shipping from a local bike shop. Piper Performance.

Well i have the D & D they are lound but that is the first compliment i get when i stop is the sound. Being loud is not always fun though, if you ride in a group like I do you end uo Voltenteering for the back. You are heard on the street but also depends on what the law is around your area.

there is a set of Jardines on Ebay right now. 2 days left. I found a new set of Jardine carbon hi-mounts on amazon for $507 shipped a few weeks ago by searching "1000shwk" in google. also go to the manufacturer's site, and use their part number and do a google search. You shouldn't pay more than $600 shipped for jardine hi-mounts.

I have high mount leo vinces on my superhawk. I love the way they look and sound. I remember the yoshi's were about 150 bucks cheaper you might look into them. I have a pair of high mount yoshis on my rc 51. They have a great sound.
