Just read this letter about a BMW owner and the drivetrain. Sure am glad for good old chain & sprocket Honda reliability.

Relatively new bike and BMW wont admit there is an inherent problem.

I've read about their rear end woes before. Go over to the ADV forum and search away. You'll find some pretty cool pics as well.

 

How the drive shaft works and how little the power loss is to the wheels through it compared to chain/belt is great but there is the ultimate price(literally) and inability to change it up due to cost.

 

That pic that you posted... that's what I always think of when I see flames painted on cars/bikes/shirts/cell phone cases. It doesn't make the thing look fast, it looks like an extremely unconfortable object with a very short lifespan.

So you're telling me that your mustang has the same performance as a fireplace log?

 

I rode a 1973 R75/5 four years. It was bullet proof.

 

There are numerous Gold Wings and BMW boxers with hundreds of thousands of miles on them with no problems whatsoever. BMW is perhaps guilty of dropping the ball on a few occasions, but all OEMs have messed up in similar ways (what of the CCTs and RRs on the VTRs? broken frames on 2005 GSX-R1000s? water pump issues on KTM RC8s? etc.....) Hopefully BMW will stand behind their product; that is the REAL test......... Speaking of Honda reliability, you may want to ask some owners of VFR1200 who got engines with metal shavings in them, CB1300 that rust within one year...... Honda reliability is not what it once was.......
