in roll on's and daily driving and stuff like that the VTR will stomp 600s...

but 1/4? drag....we get blown out of the water....just went to the drag strip and forget the times...just look at the mph on the bikes...

i was trapping around 120mph all day, 07 R6, 141mph!!!! sure the guy was probably an easy 60lbs lighter than me, but 141 mph!!! running high 10's all night....in fact most newer 600's were low 11's high 10's....i was running high to mid 11's...lol in fact there was an 1999 zx6r Ninja running 10.9s

the 600s may FEEL slower, but trust me, they are accelerating just as fast as the VTR and in higher speeds, even faster...but because they are so linear, u just dont feel it.

yea if i was shopping for a newer bike i'd be a GSXR 750, FZ1, Z1000

in fact, anything FI is looking desirable to me.

I personally don't dig I4s. I would rather go with a two-stroke if I wanted that sort of power delivery. The gruntier I4s -- FZ1, Bandit 1200, ZX1XX -- tend to be porky and I think the F3 was the last 600 that could be called an everyday rider. The GSXR750 and CBR900 / CBR9XX would probably be a lot of fun, though, and if you set it up right it could probably still be comfortable.

I took Trinc's and a few others advice and drove up and give this bike a try. Suzy 750's ARE the cat's meow. The guy took my hawk and we went for a 30 minute ride. The 750 has good predicable power and has that high rpm go like hell fun when you want to, but you don't have to like the 600's.

Just as an FYI, he was wondering why in the hell would I want the 750 instead of my hawk. I had to tell him that it was in addition to, not instead of.

I offered him 3900 NADA Average Retail for that bike with 9600 miles. He's going to think about it. Guess I'm not waiting until winter if he decides to take it.

I'll keep ya posted.

Oh, thanks for all the advice. You guys gave me some good choices other than the 600 and saved my some money to boot.

Hey red, I don't know about you but every time I race a 600 on the street from a stop I pull them every time. Since it is on the street I shut it down at about 70 or 80mph. When you race them on the strip do you pull away first then they pass you further down the track? How does the race usually go?

oh same....on the street i pound em, cuz youre in the powerband while they have to wait to wind it out...

at the track its different. they slip the crap out of the clutch....by the first 200 feet they are in the power band and thats where they stay the rest of the run, in the high RPM cuz of the close ratio gear box.

basically, second gear i pull on em, third gear they start to pull away and it stays like that through 4th. one other thing that helps I4's is the lack of torque at lower RPM. i'm babying the throttle so i dont kiss the sky in first.

thats why u dont see too many V-twins going to the track. its just not the V-twins forte. but they have so much more usable power down low, and thats what makes em great on the street.

the GSXR 750 is a great bike....1000cc I4 SS are overkill...redicilously long gears stock...shorten the gears for some fun and you'll be riding more on single wheel than two.

Anyway, I think if $5000 is the budget, I'm with a few other posters in saying get either a 1000cc I4 or a GSXR750. You're spending the money; get a little more grunt.
