How fast have you taken your bird?
Just curious on how fast you guys have gone on the bird, on track or off. I know I will prob get **** for riding fast on the street, but when you get that urge for a roll on and its clear roads you just feel like twistin the grip. I hit an indicated 140, but I know it was prob a little slower due to speedo being off a little. Dont know what top speed is but when I looked down at the speedo it kinda spooked me and I rolled off a bit to slow down.
I've taken the VTR up to an indicated 140 mph a few times. No big deal. I've gone faster on my modded '83 750 Interceptor. I'm getting older and don't care about top speed anymore.
I bought the VTR for the top gear roll on, the low and mid range grunt. I don't care about WFO top speed.

Me and the bmw k1200rs were about dead even top speed; i wasn't looking at the speedo, his said 167. *plug check*

I'm assuming 150-ish. i didnt really want to look at the speedo, but the last time i glanced it was indicating the 145 area, and i let it ride for a couple more seconds. Enough to make my butthole pucker.
An indicated 154 mph at Road Atlanta with my buddies ZX10R in tow ( he could have passed me when ever he wanted) we were playing with his onboard camera , He said his speedo read 152 mph while were in tucked up in the draft together ! Man that was fun !
Iv toped mine out a few times on the stock gearing, I think it indicates like 155 as others have said but its actually more like 147 or something like that. Used to **** me off when i would race my buddies 03 GSXR-600 (sprocket/yosh exhaust) from a roll and we'd be dead even until I hit my top speed and he walked away with the extra few mph his bike could do over mine....its ok though id murder him down low and he knows it.
most speedo's are really inaccurate at high speeds and the only real way to know is either using a GPS or a timed run like they do at places like Maxton or the Bonneville Salt Flats.

I was over 9500 RPM in 6th gear at the end of the front straight at Thunderhill.
With 15-42 gearing, I think it was about 155. I calculated it once, but I don't have the gear ratios in front of me.
With stage 1 cams, pistons, full exhaust, etc. it would pull hard to redline in 6th.

we've done this before (this post), but I will post again... I have shown an indicated 168 on the speedo. I have not corrected that or used gps. That is 5th gear topped out completely(rev limiter). Shift to six, and lose MPH. The bike could puller a taller 5th or shorter sixth, but not the top gear it has which would be good to an indicated 180ish. This with k&n, custom pipe, jetting. I have made changes and was having issues getting this top speed again, but I haven't retested since. It will go 120-130 with full luggage before wind drag kills it completely (i mean this).
About the same, close to 150 actual, with a speedohealer mine is very close to correct on the meter...
Only I was side by side with my brother on a busa (turbo, about 500 bhp)... It was very, very annoying when I was topped out and I hear him burying the throttle and then scream away...
And even more annoying when he the next lap with me holding it at all I got, and he proceeds to drop it one gear and wheelie away from me...
And yes... the darned thing can pull the front wheel up in 4'th or 5'th gear doing about 130mph... At will... Just twist and go... It's an absolute pig in corners though... to heavy... altough silky smooth so it's not the engine hampering it...
Now you know why I won't try to compete with screaming IL4's...
With that thing there is no contest, what so ever...

Much to my disgust I was top ended by a Camero last summer. It was a ***** out kind of thing that took place on I80; just him and me. We both got on at the same spot and I was way ahead but not thinking anything about it; I just powered up to about 90. After I while I see him gaining so go WFO and he is still gaining (I did not tuck in as a matter of making a statement but I should have). He caught and passed me when I was at an indicated 150 so I guess I was doing 142ish give or take. Again we were alone on an open straight stretch of interstate with no traffic, I say this because I no longer will get crazy if there is even a remote chance a innocent bystander could get spooked, hurt etc. I think the Camero was packing some big horse power.
i guess i'm a bit of an aberration in that i've only done about 120 on mine. i'm not sure if its that survival instinct that kicks in and says "don't twist that throttle any further" or if i'm just so much of a cheap bastard the thought of a speeding ticket/ legal recourse keeps me somewhat in check. all i know is that i havent really stretched my hawk's legs...maybe next summer. i rode into work today and it had barely cracked 40 degrees. time to mothball it i think.
On the street 140 indicated was all I could handle.
At the strip 117 in the 1/4.
On the dyno she stopped accelerating at 160 actual.
This was all with stock gearing and pipes/jetkit.
