Hello from VA

Hey all, I didn't see an "introduce yourself" section so posted here. Mostly I just wanted to say thanks for all the great info. I just bought a Superhawk yesterday and the info on this site helped me come to that decision. I can imagine I will be referring to this site often, as it seems there isn't (compared to other model bikes) a big resource of info for the Superhawks. Looking forward to learning more about this machine.

Welcome! So I'm guessing you're into knives?

Have any pics of your SuperHawk??

Knives among countless other hobbies. Here is a link to my FB business page.....still working on my real website.

I took a couple this morning. This is right before I removed the ridiculously wrapped mufflers. The last owner was my neighbor, so as silly as the pipe thing is I'm not too worried about the bikes condition. 2001 with less than 7500 miles.

Cool stuff on the FB page. Me and the fam are regular watchers of the forged in fire show. My son and I have really been into the knife thing lately. Bit hard by the bug.

Thanks for the compliment. I have been told about the show, but never seen it (no cable). I've been playing with metal the last 10 years or so and haven't gotten bored yet. You should check out your local blacksmith groups and try it yourself. There are groups everywhere, usually free, and they are invariably great folks to hang out with.

Welcome

Welcome to the forum. Glad to see that you scored a nice Superhawk and have freed the mummified exhaust.

how much would you sell me a Ti balisong for? (hint: better be under $100 lolololol)

Welcome to the forum!

Although I wouldnt necessarily consider this a forum, more of a tight knit group of hooligans that enjoy the Vtwin awesomeness that is the superhawk lol

BTW that is probably the useless use of exhaust wrap ever

Welcome to the best moto you will ever own.

Best mod will be setting / changing the suspension to your weight and riding ability.

Good luck, Stay safe & and watch out for drivers texting....

Thanks Hangfly!

Wolverine I will send you a PM about the knife.

scottiemann thank you for the welcome. I have yet to play with any Ti but my understanding is it can be a bear to work (and no good for a blade). Yeah I asked why he wrapped the mufflers (never seen that before),he said he was tired of burning his leg.......I asked why he didn't put on some gd pants. Sigh

Thanks nnjhawk02. I have done considerable reading already and understand the concerns of the ccts and the R/R. I hope to address these issues as well. This is my first bike on the road in more than a decade, so I am pretty damned rusty. Glad to be getting back into an old love though.

nnjhawk02 I haven't looked yet, but would guess there are a bunch of threads on "setting / changing the suspension". Is there one in particular that is good? I am about 200lbs give or take. Is there a good starting point? I don't have a service manual yet, so I will likely wait until that comes in before I go messing with anything.

There is and it's right here. It'll be impossible to set up the front correctly with the OE springs. You will end up winding the preload adjuster all the way in to prevent your front suspension from bottoming out because the springs are way too soft. One of the best improvements I've made to my Hawk was the front spring replacement. Here is a quick look.

Well it sounds as though the front and rear shocks are extremely mismatch from the factory. I took a look at your spring replacement and must admit I don't know what I am looking at, but I will learn the part names and such later and save this for future reference. I took a quick look at the prices from McDoherty (sp?), but again was unsure what I was looking at. What is the average price for this upgrade if doing your own labor? Thanks!
