grinding my boots down!
grinding my boots down!
I guess I'm getting used to the VTR now, been dragging the outside of my boots more often. Funny that the little nubs on my pegs aren't getting ground down though, must be my big feet. Also getting full use of the new tires! Time for maintenance tomorrow and I'm ready for some spring fun on the coast roads and inland mountains! Still can't stop grinning while I ride, good job I have a face shield or I'd have bugs in my teeth.
I don't like to ride with my foot in a place I need to move my foot to shift. I like having the shift lever and my foot where I can shift quickly. Soft suspension, maybe. I do need a shock for the rear from Jamie. Heroic riding, not so much. This has come about as I've gotten used to the bike and how I go into and exit a turn. Not heroic, just fun!
So where are you riding?
Also don't take this wrong but I do also know a few folks that can help you with your riding in that area, if you happen to be looking
But yeah tell me what roads you are doing this on first, then I'll comment more...... I do miss the Bay Area

+1...should have the ***** of your feet on the pegs for the twisties. Work on body positioning from side to side. Much more control, body support, and peg input with the ***** of your feet on the pegs. And it will keep your boots from dragging
I'm not new to riding or these roads, that said, the BMW is a different animal altogether compared to the VTR! I'm always up for meeting new people to ride with, I just don't care for group rides. They can be tiresome and boring.
Try keeping your toes up on the peg - at least for your inside foot - and I think you will not have any more problems. Sometimes I drag a toe but only when I don't expect it. If I'm haulin' through a turn my inside foot has the toes on the peg. That's something we always looked for when I helped out with the California Superbike School.
yes! generally, it is a surprise and I can't say I want to keep doing it. I need to forget some of the things I've learned, like keeping the toes where I can shift quickly without moving my foot. I move around a lot on the bike so getting on the ***** of my feet, as recommended so much here by so many, would seem like good advice.
On the racetrack the novices tend to drag toes due to soft suspension and bad body position. Experts win championships without doing so at all.
You can also watch the novice races and see highsides with laptimes 10 sec a lap slower than experts who never even get out of shape.
And this is all in races (not trackday). Whice is an order of magnitude faster than the street.

Pro? No. Expert yes. I have spent 13 straight years racing and instructing including Ducati shcools. Its a blast to have the 1198s unable to keep up on 3 times the HP.
The last Tonys track day I did I garaged with a shop owner on a 175+hp zx10, and lapped him twice in one session on my 50hp ninja500 racebike. He came back to the garage & asked profusely to show him how to do that.
Its common for race school instructors to ride smaller bikes to teach proper technique.
So yeah alot of instructors and racers do take some pleasure in humbling squids on machines that are way over their head. And yeah its a sick amount of fun.

Well... Tell us your weight, and what you have done to your suspension, and we'll tell you if it is or not...

Twist. How much work have you put into riding a motorcycle?
How many thousands of street miles do you have?
How many thousands of miles have you transported bikes to take race schools? Advanced schools? Pro school?
How much classroom time have you devoted?
Do you see your bike as a toy or as a dangerous life or death experience each time you ride it?
Whether or not you are aware of it, it is the latter. Some of us treat it as such. The rest are squids. Yeah they are everywhere but rarely last long in this sport if they are lucky enuff to survive at all.
If you want lightness maybe join a beer or weed forum.
