Got tires?

Just ordered the new Dunlop Qualifiers (D208ZR replacements) and should have them on by the weekend. I'm curious to hear what other people are running (although I probably should have posted before I ordered new tires.)

I went with the Dunlop's again because I put 9000+ miles on my 208's and was pretty happy with them. 2 track days + lots of highway commuting miles....my comute to work is 40 miles each way, mostly highway and pretty boring except for the on/off ramps. The track days kept them fairly even, but eventually all the highway miles flattened the rear in the middle. But hey, I think 9000 miles was pretty good.

Anyway, what's your tire preference?

For commuting and street, I use whatever takeoffs I can get for cheap. It's ghetto, but it keeps my wallet heavy. When I have a choice, my preference is for Pirelli Diablo Corsa.

For trackdays, I love my Metzeler Racetec and Michelin Pilot Race.

marmalade boy,

Do you swap tires for track days? Or do you have an extra pair of wheels with race tires on?

i just put a set of metzler sportecs on my chicken. the old dunlops were fine but these sportecs just kind of settle into a corner and stay there... very stable.

i'm going to give them a good scrubbing this weekend and will report back.

I used to have two sets of wheels, but now I swap them whenever I have a trackday coming up. Lately, I haven't been doing as many trackdays, so it's not so expensive to swap 'em.

Yea, I've heard the Pilot powers are sweet......but there so f'in expensive compared to other competitive tires. But maybe in this case you get what you pay for?

I would put the Qualifiers up againts ANY street tire out there. I don't know how long they'll last because I always end up replacing them before that point. I've been doing 2 weekend track days every 2-3 months for the past 14 months and so far these were the fastest times I put down.

Metzeler M1 tires do NOT last long. Their Pirelli equivalent, the Diablo (not Corsa) have a pretty good lifespan.

Everyone I've spoken to who has tried the Dungflop Qualifiers has loved them. I'm almost tempted to try them, but bad experiences with 208s tells me not to. I liked their 208GPAs, but don't get them unless you like replacing tires often.

I didn't like the 207 or 208 but I have to say the Q is a nice tire and believe me I'm anything but brand loyal. I've had 4 different brands this year alone...damn it adds up . Oh and I was real nervous about buying them to but had to try them, glad I did, worth the money IMO.

Last week I had some luck with an offer from Pirelli about their new Strada tire. I got a free front tire ( 120/70 ) with the purchase of the rear Strada ( 180/55 ) I paid this last one 143$ CDN, not so bad.

I've browse over the web to find comments about the Strada but like this is a brand new tire, comment are rare! For more their was only 100 free tires in the promotion so even if we ( me and the GF ) have no need of new tire right now, I decided to take a try nevertheless with this promotion and I got it!

On the other hand, I'm still not sure who will try these new rubbers: me on the VTR or the GF on the F4 ??: will see...

In both case, I will try to remember to post comment on them!

Please do! I jumped on the Metzeler Racetec deal and got three free fronts and wish I had bought more...! I absolutely love them on the track. For street riding, I can see the appeal of the Stradas.

They've got tread (they're DOT race tires).

My last two rears were Stradas and they were great, never let go on me and I'd like to think I push pretty hard at times. If I wasn't doing track days I'd definately still use them, as good a compromise as you'll get between mileage and grip. 8000 miles+ on the last one, and a good chunk of that was with a passenger, the rest hard sport touring. That said, the Qs are holding up pretty good after a track day and 1200 miles. Got another track day July 8, should have a better idea after that.

I've got 2 on mine right now but I'm a little nervous about 3-4 I just might buy some race take offs from one of the experts at the track. Thier so fast they have to get rid of the tire long before it's used up for mere mortals like us.
