flame out

Well , second post, I have had the 2001 VTR for nearly a year now, love its quirks and power spread compared to inline 4 ( 85 GPZ900) one thing I am not happy with is a fast clunky flame out for a few strokes when chugging in town at 2500-2700 rpm, is this a trait for the VTR, maybe chugging too low and its complaining to me? Usually 50 or 60 kph.

That would be 3rd gear at those speeds/RPM? Going hard on the throttle, heavy braking or just steady throttle?

That's odd.
I mean... you're right: it's a trait of VTR, and V-twins in general, but usually it's all about some popping exhaust noise or some weak backfire.
Of course, with aftermarket mufflers this phenomenon is largely amplified; could it be your case?

you may be right with that. Its standard mufflers but with baffle / tip removed..Purchased like that.

On another note, has anyone fitted the cheap LED gear indicator to a VTR, as some reviews say they only suit electronic / injected bikes, even though they list the VTR1000F as a fitment..

Have the carbs ever been synchronized?

I have a HealTech gear indicator, so not a cheap one, and it works fine. Shows what gear you're in and everything.

Sounds like carb farts to me. Clean carbs inspecting those diaphragms, make sure air filter is good (and those breather filters), then balance/synchronize your carbs. Also look into doing the TPS adjustment.

As few have mentioned, sync the carbs and check the vac pipes and TPS setting. also what pilot jets are you running? 48s? if your still on 45s change them to 48s
