The first Honda Superhawk HID Retrofit!
If you can live with suffering a little output lose, you can do the foreground mod. After doing testing, it causes the beam to get a little bit dimmer but not too much. The colormod is ok and all, but it';s really not necessary as the stock TL puts out plenty of color. If you want to get extra attention, from both cars and cops, do the colormod and you'll get a thick band in the colorband. Which TLs did you get? There are slope style and DOT style cutoff patterns in the low beam shield.
As for the 85122+, you'll love them. I run them in my Highlander and they don't colorshift near as fast as a regular 85122 will. They are 4300k though, not 5000k as everyone once thought they were. They have the same color as a new 85122
. Either way you'll love the power they put out.
Hmm, I've not seen much damage from TLs. There are a few but that's with really any projector. The damage some people would see is pitting above or around the interior area where the bulb is exposed to the bowl.
The ballast covers come as a set I believe. You can email him and ask him to verify but I'm pretty sure they come as a set. The cover doesn't add too much in terms of overall dimensions to the ballast by itself. If you want, I can take measurements and pictures for you as I run them in my Highlander as well.
I plan on using a spare ballast I have leftover from a pair of ZKW E46 headlights. Otherwise I'd run the Gen3.
As for shroud, I want a OEM appearance and not a blacked out headlight like I've done on alot of my retros for people. I've done a few where I've used some E46 3" shrouds (the ones that say "XENON" on them) in conjunction with the stock chrome halogen reflector. They turned out nice that way and looked very OEM. I plan on doing the same treatment to the SH but I'll also probably have to use some mirrored acrylic as sort of a "backplate" behind the shroud because I don't think I can fit my G35 in there without a good bit of it being inside the headlight as opposed to hanging out the rear. I've checked clearance from lock to lock and with a D2S connector on, there isn't too much room, so most of the projector needs to be inside the headlight. This will make it sit closer to the clear lens but also expose more area you'll have to cover up with a shroud, and possibly the mirrored acrylic.
Glad you have been on our hidplanet site and have found some info useful. We have so much info on there that often its hard to find it when you do a search because so many topics get posted about over and over. We need to prune it badly heh.
shizzy wizzy, I'll let you and everyone else know as soon as I get some things set up. Here is a teaser of my Highlander retro with ultra wide LS430 projectors http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5w2B2AOUiM. Camera can't pick up the output or correct exposure worth a crap but you get the idea.

LOL
Oh man, that's pretty funny that you ran into me on here.
I see you picked up a hawk, they're loads of fun. Seeing your threads, I know your HID setup will be supreme! Right now I'm actually trying to sell mine, too tired dealing with carb & whatnot, I want the smoothness & weight of a FI 600.
I know for my next bike, I'm gonna go (depending on bike) single/dual clearlens TL's with a 55w ballast & a DL50. Know anyone still selling em?

Hah what's up man?! Yeah loving the hawk so far!
I'll be doing just a G35 in the bike. Nothing too fancy for a projector except to make it look OEM. It will get the job done over stock for sure hah. Stock lighting on this thing is pretty bad. I wished I could use one LS430 but it's not bixenon and I'll need the high beams :/.
There have been some decent threads on where to get DL50s and who sells the boosted ballasts now. I think lightworkz sells them and retro-solutions. Be sure to run the DL50 and not a regular 35w D2S or "kit 55w D2S". Gearbox had a good thread on the comparison of them. You could probably get everything on the forum.

Sounds good. I've been off the forums for a bit now, summertime has arrived here so the bike is back online.
Oh, and in my experience with bike retros, you need to aim much lower than two inches at 25', and you need to aim with the rider sitting on the bike. The squat you get when you accelerate is enough to shoot the beam higher than the rearview mirror on cars, causing glare.
I aim my beam so it constantly flickers up and down other people's rearview. Really grabs their attention and lets them know I'm there. I used to aim it down like I would on a car, but people would cut me off because they didn't see me. Since I've aimed it up, people are very aware of where I am.
You gotta post pics of when you're finished, I want to see how you did your setup.
