Reason for the early start is to get folks back in time to pack and leave. Some of us will have anywhere between 3 and 10 hours to drive back home. I'll be staying until Tuesday to get some quality riding time in free of other motorcycle mayhem and the law. You can always go to bed early.

Will there be any beer drinking in the "Bonfire/Shoot the ****" segment of the itinerary?

It is a dry county, so you must bring your own beverages.

Very good giving the "more seasoned" folks a chance to get teir vacation requests in early. Means I'll have a better chance of getting there.

Why are ALL of the rallies at Deal's Gap? Is there no other roads suitable? Not bitching just trying to figure out why every forum I frequent has their rally there.

if we have a rally might as well have it where we can get action shots easy (there's 3-4 if not more professional photographers at the gap) and have some fun on one of the best roads in the US for motorcycles. Not to mention there's also tons of roads surround that area which are great as well...

I think it's a location type thing, as most of the people on the forum seem to be in the general area. I'm way south of there and others are north and some are way west but on the locator that Greg put up there's a heavy concentration of people in that area. I also know some great roads in the surrounding area other than the dragon so we don't have to stay directly there either but it is one hellava road. I also have a map of the area I picked up at Deal's Gap last time I rode there and it has set loops and places of intrest on it, believe me there are days and days worth of good riding in the area.

Did you look at the maps I provided for the two rides???? They do NOT concentrate on the Dragon itself, but the roads in the surrounding area. There are 3 motorcycle-friendly campgrounds in the area, which is another good reason to have the location there. Accomodations are relatively inexpensive as well.

Yup, it's a good ride. Done it several times myself. Good curves, good food, and just long enough to give you monkey butt.

I should be able to swing this one.. I will be able to make it a dual purpose trip since my parents live close to Nashville.

Looks like road trip time for me. Seattle is a long way away. Definitely gonna trailer the bikes down there.

Here is a couple of Killboy's pics of me this year on the HOG.

I just got back from a week in upstate NY and saw this thread. Only suggestion I have is that April and May is our rainy season. The end of May or first part of June might be better. Another option would be having this during the week. The law enforcement presence has been getting really thick on the weekends.

Good suggestion. We can discuss that here. I just picked a date with temperature in mind. I have also considered the LEO situation and that's why most of the riding will be away from the Gap itself. Personally, I'm going up on the 2nd and staying to the 8th. The actual weekend will be the rally. Many folks live within a few hours drive and can make a weekend of it. For folks like me, I can't drive 10-11 hours each way and just do the weekend. I'll make a vacation of it. Anyone else is welcome to join me and the wife. It'll be unplanned riding and stuff through the week.

Well, no, they're not set in stone. If you have a good reason to change it then we can discuss it. It was already mentioned to make it later in May. I really would like to keep it before Memorial Day, May 28th. That is the point which seems things change over to "tourist season". All the LEO show up, people wrecking, squids, cats and dogs living together...just mayhem in general. I would like to avoid all that.

What was your suggestion?

Hey guys, I haven't posted in a while and thought I'd check in the forum to see what's going on.
I found this thread and figured it'd be a good place to get started back.
I'll do my best to be there.
Like Sgt. Rock, I get to ride Tail of the Dragon a bunch of times each season. I think it would be neat to have a bunch of Superhawks there.

Just a reminder to mark your new 2007 calendars for this trip. Now is the time to make reservations so we need to talk this over more and decide if the first weekend in May is good for the majority of us. Once we decide, I will call Crossroads of Time and reserve however many campsites/cabins we need.

Hey Greg, how about something like this, if there are enough folks going then the cost comes down a lot, and the bikes would be safe in a garage....let me know what you think.....

Aww, **** son. That's right near the Cherahola!!!! Hell yeah, I'd be VERY interested! I'll call tomorrow and get information. By the looks of it, Treetops sleeps 8 and The Ridge sleeps 7. That's a total of 15. It's $1800 for the week for both. That's only $120 per person for a week. That's a pretty good deal. Plus we'll have garage space for the bikes, a place to cook, and they look quite comfy. Hell, even if you only stay for 3 days it's a deal. Stay for the week and it's a steal.

So, who's in? If I get some interest here I'll start a new post with a roster and make it a sticky.
