Smile Finally bought one - need tire, brake pad, and fluid recommendations.

Hi everyone - pulled the trigger over the weekend and bought a 2003 VTR1000! So far it runs well, needs some basic maintenance before i start riding it though to be on the safe side.

I'll be replacing the tires, brake pads, and all the fluids soon. However I have no idea what to get for each.

I'd really appreciate:
- Tre recommendations ( was looking at Michelin Pilot Road 4 GT's but unsure - I just want something for everyday driving that will grip over a bit of gravel or rain)
- Brake pad recommendations
- Any mentions if there are preferred brands for brake fluid, oil or coolant.

Thank you very much, excited to be a part of the club!

Oh No not an Earl thread

I use 10w 40 synthetic - Moto earl

Engine Ice Coolant or Wetter Water

Michelins are great tires. I don't ride as aggressive any more - so I'm using Sport Touring tires - harder compound in middle of the tire. They still can rip - I was never dragging a knee anyway. Currently have

Brake pads - sintered pads. EBC or Galfer

Synthetic brake fluid - change every 2 yrs.

Tires are very subjective but there is one I don’t recommend. Michelin Road4’s. I really disliked that front tire. It felt squirmy when pushed hard. The Road 5’s are stellar. Definitely go that route if you can afford to (IMO). Great grip, feel and wear. My blue Hawk currently has Pirelli Diablo Rosso 3’s(because they were on it when I bought it). Love them BUT.. you will chew through rears pretty quick. I have a set of Michelin Power5’s sitting there waiting to be mounted next.

Oil is also very opinionated. Mobil1 4t is great in the VTR. Shift feel is stellar.

Thank you! I'll look at the road 5's and the Power 5's.

Mobil1 is my go to for my car as well so will probably go that route as well

I'll second the smooth shifting with 4T. It also stays smooth right to the end of the change interval.
Continental Road Attack, very little feel when new and were extremely awful at the end of their life. Pirelli Angel delaminated at the rear, twice. Very happy with Dunlop Roadsmart 4. Have not used Michelin Road of any generation, so no opinion.
