Engine Running Problems

Ive replaced my front cam chain tensioner and now im having engine running problems when its on idle it will run then it will back fire through the front carb and cut out, also when you it rev it it back fires through the exhaust which you can hear from the front cylinder.

Has any one got any idea of why this id doing this and how i can sort it out

Thanks Becky

The cam-chain slipped on the cam-sprocket. You will have to take the valve cover off and set it all back up again as specifed in chap-8 of the manual (download in KB sticky). There are marks on the flywheel and the cam-sprockets that have to be at certain locations at certian times (hence valve timing). When you do the rear CCT, be sure to zip-tie the cam-chain to the cam-sprockets to avoid that slippage, and stuff a rag in there in case you drop anything. Also note the position of the cam-lobes in the photo below, both ex and in are fully closed. There is a good KB thread on this too. This should not be all that hard to correct. Good luck. JB

Yep - sounds like it.

When you remove a CCT you need to do so in the proper procedure. If you fail to do this the timing can change and result in the valves hitting the piston. This is not good!!!!!!!!!!

Lets hope that you have not done this. Get your cam timing set correctly and get a compression test done.
