early use regular gas - later uses premium

early has gloss finish and later models came in matt paint

Also later model has slightly different clutch cover design, tank size and bars to suit, r/r, different airbox etc,

WHAT???? Holy crap!!! I never heard that before. So what earlier years need regular and what years need premium, and why? If I have a '99 and have been running premium, in what way or how could it effect it. ie.... run crappy or anything else?

He threw that out there to see if you were paying attention. Read your owner's manual.

Not on North America models. They all had the same tank here.

The ergos are the same on all models here.

There are quite a few differences between early models and the later ones.

What exactly are you looking for? The most power or the most comfort?

Are you sure on that? As I understand it, the handlebars changed in 2001 - the angle of the bars changed slightly to increase rider comfort.

I have a 2001 with a Corbin seat and gen-mar risers. I'm 6'3'' and it is really comfortable. Usually do 200 miles every Saturday no problems and I have a bad back.

Search for 53100-MBB-000ZA on a reverse part # lookup (like RonAyers) and you will see the handlebars are unchanged in all years. (description says 98-00, but it is used till 2005)

The PDF is for the euro models so I can't comment on those bikes.
They also left out the cam change.

Well I guess I'll need to look at a later model one when I have a chance. He could be correct but I believe the different bars came with the larger fuel tank.

As for the part numbers, well they do the same with the cams and we have found out they are different.

Oh and then there is the shift linkage, fairing mounting brackets and a host of small bits changed also.

Shift linkage and Cams are 98 only I think..

Bars being moved to not hit the larger tank makes sense.. and also makes sense that because we didn't get the tank, we wouldn't get the bars.
