Cryogenic Metal Treatment on VTR

Hey guys,

Today i come accross with an advertisement from CryoHeat company in which CryoHeat Metal Treatment provides huge performance gains to metal objects by completely stress reliving the metal. And this promotes stronger metal that is more wear resistant, holding greater dimensional stability and capable of dissipating thermal temperatures much easier.

The benefits from the CryoHeat treatment in metals are:
  • Greater strength
  • Better wear resistance
  • Reduced thermal temperatures
  • Reduces friction
  • Reduces surface roughness
  • Relieves microscopic stress fractures
  • Refines the molecular grain structure
  • Allows the machining of parts to tighter tolerances
  • Increases dimensional stability on critical components
  • Increases component durability and greater longevity
  • Promoting a significant savings on valuable repair time and parts replacement
  • 2 to 4 times the service life and 20 – 50% stronger metal.

The benefits of CryoHeat Cryogenic Metal Treatment to engine and transmission parts are:
  • Dimensional stability for moving or static parts
  • Strengthening from 18% - 50%
  • 2.5 times or greater wear resistance
  • Removes stresses in metal from manufacturing and heat treating
  • Dissipating of heat faster and more evenly
  • No more hot-spots in metal
  • Engine break in period is greatly reduced
  • More horse-power and higher RPM's
  • Increased value of builders warranties
  • Greatly expanding cost savings

Does anyone knows anything more about this or has a friend who did this? I would love also to put it on my V2 Project and how much will it cost.

What specific parts were you thinking of getting cryo treated?

Most of the cryo parts i've seen are transmission gears. It has its ups, but i've also heard it can make gears more brittle. It's also a bit pricey.

Again, what specific parts were you thinking?

Pretty sure (back when I watched 15 years ago) race teams had their rear gears cryo treated to make them last longer.

We use it in the printing industry mainly on large cutter knives. They hold their edge longer and generally last longer. No idea on costs, the company that does the sharpening also offers this process and I don't pay the bills.

I think it'd be overkill to do just about anything on your bike. What parts are you wearing out on a regular basis that would benefit from the treatment? Extended service time is what cryo is all about, at least that is my specific experience.

More HP, higher RPM's? Sounds like fluff to me.

Hi James,

I was looking for away to normalize any friction created in the gearbox or in any part inside the engine having in mind that i m going to keep my hawk and not selling it, so any way i ll come across to extend my engine's life would be great but if such process makes it brittle then nope i m not going to do anything like that...

As far for the cost yep is a serious factor since i have spend so much in customizing my hawk.

The brittle thing is just a faint memory i have. May want to check into that some more.
