Clutch Dissappeared

under hard acceleration. went from 2nd to third and something bounced off my helmet. caught a glimpse of something silver. went to shift to 4th and no clutch. limped it home w/o stopping that was interesting. i thought i had gone over most everything with this mc. it looks like it was loose and just fell off. is this possible? only thing left was the plunger that goes into the boot. i saved it. pic from foothills parkway. my dad rode the night train. it was a great ride.

That sucks! Must have been one hell of a ride home. I can't imagine what it was like to ride without a clutch

all about matching revs...sucks, but it can be done.

this summer I was out in Colorado on the VTX and while going up to Mt. Evans I had a air bubble dislodge in my clutch line once I got at altitude. lost ALL clutch pressure and the lever just slapped the handgrip. luckily it was the clutch and not the brakes because those were some nasty drop-offs. I got it into a parking lot at the base of Mt. Evans entry road and burped the clutch system in the parking lot enough to get some of the air out

Been there myself on my old FZR... The open road wasn't too bad but stop and go traffic was too much of a challenge and I opted to come back with my pickup and take it home.

How do you match the revs at the first stop light?

Use your LEGS to move the machine forward slowly, then drop it into first gear.

As long as you don't have to stop, no problem.

A car or truck, however, can be started in 2nd gear with part throttle from a stop. I drove a Datsun B210 for 20 miles, with stoplights, without a clutch once (leaking slave cylinder). I wouldn't want to try it with a motorcycle though.
