Chain and Sprocket Options...
Hi
was doing my usual work on the bike today and noticed that my chain will need replacing. So while i'm at it I may as well do the sprockets to.
I have had a look to see what's out there and there's so many options.
What should I be looking at buying. I'm looking at mid range pricing. Not too expensive.
What have you guys fitted to your bike and what do you recommend?
Its a stock 2001 VTR Firestorm.
Thanks.

Like an oil thread you will get lots of personal choices based mostly on just what has worked for the rider, and or they read / heard form others.
That's not bad,, but is what is is.
I have been running Stealth Sprockets by SuperSprox on all my bikes, dirt and street for about 4 years now.... I get great wear, it's a bit lighter then an all steel sprocket and a bit of bling.
For fronts I use Sunstar, JT, or Renthal... they fit the countershaft splines tight.. run true with very minimal run out....wear well overall.
Chains.. get the best you can afford.. you do get what you pay for. Im a fan of RK or chains... XSO Ring is what I run on the smaller bikes and the GBXSO for the Superhawk and other 1000cc bikes
The other chain I use is a Regina for the SH, that would be a 136 ZRP.
There are lots of other good choices and opinions,... but those are mine.

I searched two days for the cheapest, nicest, chain I could find... DID, RK, Regina, EK... They all have o-ring and x-ring chains with similar load ratings, but the prices vary a LOT. I've used EK chains in the past with great success, and their gold x-ring 530 chain was less than $100 shipped through this company: New & Used Denver, Colorado Motorcycle Dealer | Honda Kawasaki Ducati KTM Suzuki Motorcycles Parts Service Buy Sell Used Bikes I found it on their Ebay store, then called them to order it. It was a 120 link chain.
Sprockets: You'll have to decide whether you want looks, or longevity. They don't always go together. JT sprockets are steel and seem to last quite well. I bought a Renthal lightened front sprocket because I plan on doing the Nicky mod, so the sprocket will be seen.... Anything aluminum will wear much faster than steel, even if it's hard anodized.
Thanks!
James
