Chain go, "bye bye!"

Well, as i was finishing up my 70 mile ride this evening, i was about 2.5 miles from my house (where i was headed) and my chain snapped. I had just left a stop light, and was under normal acceleration, and POP! no more go! sooooo, i have just ordered a new gold chain for the bike and will have to figure out a way to get it home tomorrow morning, as i do not have a truck to get it home. Just thought i would share my bit of bad luck with everyone.

Damn, sorry. I check my chain and clean and lube it after every ride because I'm always afraid of that happening. Plus my last bike it was common if the chain broke it would take out the Clutch push rod, water pump, and potentially the engine case itself with it.

If you were close enough to me I would bring my truck and trailer and help you out, but KY is a little bit far to travel from GA

I keep the chain clean and lubed, but i guess one of the links stretched and just gave out. no other damages were done to the bike. i made sure and checked the clutch right after it happened, it still engages and everything worked fine. luckily i wasnt in a hard launch... may have effed up something else then. The bike actually broke down in Tennessee, i live on the border of the 2 states. (stationed at Fort Campbell) but i know where your heart is, and i like it!

Hope it's in a safe location. There's no way I would leave mine overnight. Can't you phone-a-friend?

Phoned all the friends I have with a truck. Everyone is working, or out of town. I left it at a 24 hour gas station, and asked the attendant to keep an eye on it for me. I'm picking it up first thing in the morning. Wasn't my first choice to leave it, but I've exhausted all options.

2.5 miles? I have pushed bikes farther than that. Doesnt uhaul rent trucks for like 20 clams a day? Seems cheap.

Or join the ama and it comes with bike roadside assistance.

Maybe he's terrain limited.

2.5 miles here is like ten miles other places due to hills.

For that distance you can hold onto the windowsill of your mom's car and go 10-15mph. (free tow).

So out of curriosity was it a master link failure? It scares me that some people will use a clip style master and not a rivited master on a 600cc let alone on a liter bike. I dont trust them even on my dirt bikes

It was indeed a clip on master link failure. Bought a new chain, and had the master link pressed instead of using the clip link it came with. To be honest, I didn't know it had a clip link on it, or I would have taken care of that when I first bought it. But that was my fault for not even thinking to check it. Oh well, you live and you learn. Right?
