Brake Tech 320mm rotors

Hello Everyone,

I have the last set of 320 mm iron rotors that Brake Tech made a few years back. They were damaged in a storm.

Last week I visited Jeff Gehrs @ Brake Tech in Ca. During a business trip. We talked about using RC51 or CBR1000 iron rotors with an adaptor to replace mine.

He is going to run another batch of VTR rotors in the spring but in SS and 298mm size.

Is anyone interested in upgrading to the 320mm iron rotors??

How much? pics? If I read correctly these fit the stock VTR Wheel?

BTW, I am currently running a set of SS 298mm Braketechs (Axis Cobras) on my bike......

All, the RC51 & CBR1000 rotors will need an adaptor made up to fit the
VTR wheel. Also there is an adaptor used to offset the callipers. These aren't expensive pieces. I'll ask Jeff what the rotors cost. Frank

Here is the pricing for 320mm RC51 rotors with wheel adaptors & caliper relocaters.

On pricing, the 320mm AXIS/Iron floaters are $369.95 each with the AXIS/Cobra stainless a bit less at $339.95 each (so that's $740pr on iron and $680pr on stainless). Add in the discounted price (from $170pr) of $125pr for the O/S adapter brackets and you can see where this is going.
And this doesn't even address the RC51 (the most likely candidate for the conversion you describe) adapter plates, which unavoidably pushes that cost higher yet.
Here's the only thing I can come up with for as a potentially viable proposition: A group buy with a minimum buy-in of ten [10] kits. Would end up looking like this:
• RC51 AXIS/Iron to VTR Conversion Kit, $990 less 10% = $890
• RC51 AXIS/Cobra SS to VTR Conversion Kit, $930 less 10% = $835
The above would include both caliper relo brackets as well as RC51 to VTR rotor adapters and mounting hardware. In the group buy mode, we would also extend a 20% discount on pads when purchased together.

So what you're saying is that it would be more expensive to buy these braketech rotor kits for the vtr then it would be to do a RC51 front end swap by about $200 to $300.

No brainer to take the RC51 front end to get better front suspension and brakes for less money.

good point !! I like your thinking. I never said this was a cheap way out. This is for new iron rotors that bolt right on. Does the RC51 front end swap include everything for $200.00/$300.00? Calipers, rotors &wheel! if so I'm interested.

No, he said it was 200-300 cheaper than your 900 quote for just rotors
for everything it runs about 600-700 bucks depending on how lucky you get on flea bay

ok I see my mistake. still not a bad option. My front end is all racetech already so really no need to change anything but rotors. the oringinal set was around $550.00 I think.

I have all of my suspension done as well by Jamie and I can tell you that when I go to get more braking power I will not be spending $900 on a set of rotors, I would go with the F4i calipers, MC and braided lines with EBC or Galfer rotors. All those parts can be had for about $350 off ebay. Still way under the cost of braketech rotors and better braking power.


Maybe because I have never used them but I am not seeing whats so special about these rotors to constitute paying $900 for a set.... Honestly for that price these rotors better include the happy ending..

We all see things differently and send money accordingly. I justify this because I like playing/mod-ing this bike and having fun doing so. The full floating iron rotors are by far the best I’ve used. The iron have greater thermal transfer than SS. This setup is near one finger braking , no fade , all stop! I’ve done over 20 track days and they are very predictable. It’s a tough call for most people even me. The SH is a cult bike. Some have done amazing things to their bikes, things I’d never do. This option still leaves the owner to be able to sell them or install them on an RC51 later. You’re not going to get SS to perform like these. I also didn’t think the final cost was going to be near $1,000.00 like I said they were originally around $550.00 when I got them. The Penske double clicker cost $900.00. I can easily add more in upgrades than the bike is worth. I think you’d be happier if you go with RC51 master & calipers instead of F4. Just me talking , I have both bikes.
