Bought a 1998 996
Hi I bought a nice bike from a Honda dealer with a bad motor
and this is what happened
Man I bought this bike 2 months ago with an engine that jumped time , never seen one apart before
I bought an engine and took photos but lost my phone
when I went to La to buy a Honda 2012 CBR 1000RR
lost my hole pack off the back dam bike
Bought a book got lost in mail
bought another one it's coming
Got the on line manual but it dose not show it
Got a Mackinac to work on it he plugged the wrong water hose into it .
Took me 3 weeks to blow through a hose the see I could not then poked it can not
To morrow I get a carter key for the carb and built it up and start it for the first time send I had it.
Cost $2400
Second engine looks good as well may have jumped time starting it?
and this is what happened

Welcome aboard dude. Um.. well... F&%K me I'm gonna be the first to say I had a really hard time understanding that... hope it starts/runs. Along with checking the timing did you check the cam chain tensioners to see it one is damaged or broken (assuming they're the stock ones)? Maybe worth the hundred bucks to replace with manuals? I'm gonna say it "jumped time" for a reason, and maybe not a good one. Bad things/curse words/hypertension/flying objects/empty pockets usually follow shortly thereafter with the realization that a valve has tried becoming a little TOO intimate with it's fellow piston. It never ends well...
