Aprilia RSV4R First impression

First day since receiving the bike, the temp is over 40. Short hop to town. The bike roars. Sounds like a Formula 1 car. Feels like a 600 (with 180 hp). Has that same pull as the Hawk but probably continues farther up the tach. Town is too close. Steering is intuitive. I now know why the front end swap on the Hawk is so popular. And apparently, now the lousy fuel mileage the Hawk gets is trumped by this bike. 28+- mpg. Some say 75 miles after a fill up your looking for gas.

V4 Victory. You suck!

I don't want to hear any more than what year, how much was it and what's the insurance premium (with pilot details, carrier, # of vehicles and other factors along with policy limits clarified)...

With gas approaching and passing in some areas $4 per gallon, I already told my wife I'd have to only ride when it made sense to also accomplish another task or when I know it will be a quality ride. Given an average of 33 mpg at say 60 mph (1 mile per minute) average with gas at $4 per gallon: 4/33 = $.0.121212 cents per mile (excluding wear & tear and other expenses including insurance and food/drink to operate a VTR or another MC of like gas mileage). Consequently, the following sad state of affairs again applies (i.e., like 2008): 1 hour = 60 minutes x .121212 = $7.272727 per hour. Or, for a 260 mile day = $31.5151 per ride!!!!

Actually, the V4 Tuono to me is intriguing and more savory.

Yeah me too. Way too much horsepower though, I'd love to see a 'supersport' version. Sucks about the mileage, maybe it'll get better after it's broken in?

Guys - don't you remember? JPP won this bike (You lucky lucky bastard)
I've spent the last hour looking up reviews and drooling.

JPP did you have her in "street" mode? Limiting to "only" 140hp? roads are still wet and sandy, take it easy out there

Hard to bitch about gas mileage when you won the bike in a lottery. But if you want to get rid of it for what you have invested...

Enjoy!

No bitching here. I'm a sucker for motorcycle raffles. I still can't believe it's in my garage.

The first time I started it I barely cracked the throttle and the back kicked out. Then I tapped the front brake and almost went over the handle bars. I giggled like a girl. The roads were a bit wet and It was in track mode. almost unstable on salty roads with snow drifts piled up on the sides. It's in street mode now and much more friendly. Hell of a machine though.

Obviously too much for that geographic location. Send it to Texas where it will be in the 60's today and I will ride it properly for you.

I'm green w/ envy. Congrats JPP. I had the opportunity to test ride a ZX-10 and an R1 last year so I know how you felt when you applied the brakes! Makes the SH front end seem soo primitive.

Um peronally I think the new R1 has wimpy brakes compared to my VTR... But I might be a bit odd...

I have done a few miles on a RSV4... I loved it, but at 6'5" 210 I was a bit cramped on it... I'm thinking I would love to have a go on track...

Um, yeah... I keeps pulling a wee bit more than the VTR... In fifth... then you snick it into 6'th and wave bye-bye to the VTR...

Would that be your VTR w/ the front end swap? My VTR's front brake doesn't even come remotely close to the '10 R1's radials IMO. And I do have fresh fluid w/ no air in the lines .

That would indeed be the radial brakes of a CBR 1000RR 07 on my bike... So yeah... Not entirely stock...

$4 a gallon! Thats half what we pay in the UK, and yes I did allow for the different size of gallon.

I feel for you guys in Europe.
In Canada, we are at $ 1.26/litre and everyone here is squawking. I think that works out to roughly $ 4.75 USD.
No matter what the price of gas, it won't stop me from riding because as the saying goes, "if you want to play you have to pay". Hence why I've never calculated what the the VTR gets for mileage.
