There seems to be a lot more '98's out there than any other model year. Also, has anyone ever seen a '97 Hawk? '97 is always listed as the first model year, but I've never seen one (either in person or pictures of one on the internet).

That's generally how it works. Most models have a strong opening or second year and decline from there during the model life. You won't get the information from Honda. They're secretive.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I think the VTR1000F Superhawk was introduced in 1997 and was actually made and was avaiable in year 1998.

How many were sold in a year? Worldwide or just the U.S.? This is a tough question......Try Google.....just kidding!!

I've got a '98 that has a manufacturing date of 2/97.

VTR1000 numbers from Cycle Canada

Hi:

From the March, 1997 Cycle Canada motorcycle magazine it said that 10,000 Firestorms/Superhawks were scheduled to be built with 6,000 going to Europe and 2,000 destined for the U.S.A.. Now, at the end of the article it says that "orders for 15,000 bikes already received from around the world".

if you have a 97 model year can you take a picture of your vin card showing that it's a 97 I can use it to qualify for clasic racing but I've never been able to track one down to prove it. feel free to black out the actual vin if you want to I just need to beable to show a 97 model year.

Absolutely not a problem, but is it OK that mine is European model? I live in Belgium, so...

I have that document somewhere which states that it was first registered and got number plates in 97, but I will have to look for it - is that what you need?

yeah I think that will work the rule book doesn't say anything about it having to be a us model as long as they didn't make in changes mechanicly which I think they did not.

yeah but what I need to show is a 97 Model year, not the build date. most 98 would have a 97 build date. I need one that is a 97 Model year.
