I've seen a bunch of guys post on here over the years making the run, some with an extended swing arm. You darn near stalled her on the start so there is plenty of room for improvement of your time.

Yeah, a few V8s blew up during the night so there were big hold ups, so I only got 3 runs in. First time dragging the VTR. Got an 11.90 first go though, which I am surprised/happy with.

I never have, but I think that's very good for your first time at it. Fastest I've ever heard of was 10.83 @ 127.32 from motorcycle.com.

Two possible suggestions for a faster 1/4 mile:

What RPM did you leave at? Work it higher and higher and control wheelspin and wheelies with the clutch. Most of the time to be made up is in the first 60'. What 60' times are the more practiced guys getting at that track?

Do you have to let off for every shift? Seems like our bikes don't like the 1st to 2nd shift, but you might be able to gain a little time not letting off for the shift from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to fourth.

Still - not too shabby at all for a 15+ year old bike with only 3 runs!!!

Awesome!

And if you remember the reviews (or want to spend the time looking for them)
It was also said the bike could run much quicker (and these bikes really were bone stock with all factory equipment installed) but they were unable to get a good launch.

The reason.....you guessed it, there was no way to keep the front end down if you tried to launch with any real power.

My thoughts exactly. I've played around with my SH enough to know that it's gonna be REALLY hard to put the maximum power down off the line without that front wheel coming up, regardless of how skillfully you manipulate the clutch and throttle. Just the nature of the beast I suppose...it's that same awesome torque curve that hustles you so well out of a knee-dragger corner though , and that's REALLY what the SH and other v-twin sportbikes are designed to do best.

If I get another chance to go play on the 1/4 mile , my ZRX1200R will be the weapon of choice...a much better machine for roasting off a good 1/4 mile time.

Wasn't that the guy on the vtr1000.org forum?nIf I remember right, he took out the rear shock and replaced it with a chunk of metal.
