I joined this forum in late May. So this is all I know. I've only seen the one spam ad and that was rectified pretty quickly.

Has it changed a lot? This forum format looks to be the norm as I'm on a couple of other ones.

There have only been two as far as I have seen, Very tame. I MOD on ThumperTalk... and we see more then that in a day. The users normally report them to us quickly, and the spammer is banned normally within minutes... as one of the MOD's is always around... we just need to know where the post is. The software vBulletin Version is very capable of taking care of spammers with just a little intervention of a MOD. Though I know the vBulletin Version TT is using is heavily tweaked...so, the spam handling may be an ad on,, and not stock.

EDIT, ok three now..... and this last one is ummm, well Interesting to say the least

Maybe I'm spoiled because we had maybe 1 in months before but now there's at least 4 on one thread alone and we never had adds but those aren't as bad just annoying.

I think the advertising is fine. It ensures we'll have the sight. This software has an annual fee and I think we'd all agree that vBulletin is a huge step up.

The spam thing is affecting all of the boards I visit.

I know Jschmidt it's just we get bombarded with ads all the time,(tv, movies, internet), it would be nice not to have half a screen full. The spam thing just seems to be getting worse in the last couple of days and it's just REALLY annoying but like I said it might just be me. BTW the other 3 sites I go to haven't had this issue and we never did before and if a spammer is smart enough they just change their ip and get right back in.

Sorry you feel that way sh22... We removed the ads that showed up just after the first post of every message? I would assume that to be the most annoying of all the ads. ? I wish I could just get rid of all the ads but they're necessary to keep the place going...

About the spamming... my bad... I made mistake in the forum admin control panel when I disabled a very important feature that would require new users to verify their email addresses when registering... This enabled spammers to start posting immediatly after registering without confirming a unique email address...Hopefully this feature will keep us clean from most of the spam.

Also, please welcome SHF user Hawkrider who has offered to become SHF's first official moderator. :-D

Eh, don't mind me I'm just a little irritable lately. Thanks though and I still love the site. Thanks for getting rid of the adds inbetween post, that was the annoying part and the others are understandable. Hopefully what you did will take care of the spammers it was getting out of hand and thanks for listening, it's all I could ask for!

I mean, it's about time of the month for a trackday!!!

I swear that's the only thing that keeps me sane some times.

Yeah, sorry about that guys. I had a cold yesterday and only had about 30 minutes or so to look around last night before I had to go to work. I've been deleting those posts and we have added the ability to ban users. Now that the security feature is back on I don't see it happening much any more. I haven't blocked any IPs yet, and hopefully I won't have to.
