Ah, so you're comparing it to our beloved Superhawk... that makes sense: the 1100's peak HP is lower than our 15 year old bike and sure to disappoint. But it'd be more fun to take off of curbs for sure (especially the 796). I guess I've never ridden it, but it's just weird to me that someone's so adamantly against it. And if you're expecting any Duc to cost $6,000, better start looking on Craigslist b/c they don't come that way new...

And a riding buddy has a Monster 620 that I gladly hop on every once in awhile. Not a Superhawk, and I like that he has to adjust the Desmodromic valves and timing belts and not me, but it's a good ride IMO.

I've ridden a number of different bikes, including my roommate's Ducati 999...to me that's what a Duc should feel like, especially if you're paying real money for it.

I'm not "adamantly" against it, I'm just adamantly against paying money for **** piles, in all their forms (Japanese, Italian, whatever).

Don't take my word for it, ride one! If you feel like you wanna pay what they're asking for it after that, come back here and tell us.

So $18K plus tax/title for a 1199 is a fair thing to put "real money" into?

I guess what I'm thinking is that I'd be a lot more likely to pay $10k for a Hypermotard or, very realistically, $3200 OTD for a used 2002 Monster 620 with Termigonis and 9k miles.

Not knocking those who buy new, just saying that in some way, they're all overpriced pieces when you look at the opportunity cost.

I'm not paying for any of them, I haven't ridden the 'tard or the 1198, and I wouldn't necessarily disagree with you if I did ride them (despite what it may sound, haha!), but you're not comparing apples to apples when we're talking a $9K/$10K Monster/796 to a $18K 999/1199- of course the quality won't feel the same! Why would it? From a cost standpoint it should feel exactly twice as good!

As delivered fueling below 5k is crappy so I've had the ecu reflashed and am running one tooth down on the countershaft sprocket. Also, the bars are a bit low, narrow and have an odd bend so I've gone with a Renthal Fatbar. The other big change has been a switch to Michelin PP 2CTs...the triangular profile of the front tire combined with the Renthals have greatly improved turn in.
