this was what was waiting for me when i went outside earlier today ,and it's not even snake season yet ........my stupid dog almost pee'd on it ,damn things don't rattle anymore ,,,,WTF ............
I had 2 in my yard a few weeks ago. Much smaller than that. I catch 'em, put them in a bucket and relocate a few miles away. No need to kill, they were harmless garter snakes. I don't think I'd be pickin' up that kind!
Is there a way to deal with them outside of killing them? I came across a large rattler on a ride in Texas a few years back. Parked, got off the bike, and there it was, sitting on the tree 4 feet from me - impressive and scary.
Bombin' thru Lake County down here in Fl we stopped under a oak tree for a break. Snapped the side stand down, and when I got off the bike I heard a hissssing sound, like a thin stream of water on a hot pipe.
Yup, I was parked on top of a rattler.
Armored riding boots, if you wondered, and I stepped three paces away with alacrity. Gentle prodding with a loooooong stick encouraged him to escape.
I like rattle snakes more than rats and other vermin. Live and let is my motto when faced with them.
