Seattle to Grand Canyon and back
My wife and I along with her mom and dad, have thought about going on a mc ride from Seattle to Grand Canyon via the pacific coast highway. I was wondering if anyone here has done a similar trip? We want to go in late June and would like to be at Grand Canyon over the 4th of July. For all of us this would be the longest trip we have ever been on at any one given time, we know we need to pace ourselves. Also does anyone know about the average speed of CA Highway 1?

I haven't riden the whole route, but I have riden roughly from Astoria Oregon to The Avenue of the Giants California via 101. So since you will be heading south expect average speeds from Astoria to Newport Oregon to be about 45 mph, lots to see as well this I didn't calculate in. South of Newport it opens up alot between towns and they are smaller so you can average closer to the speed limit. Southern Oregon coast is amazing. If you are going to camp Humbug Mountain is a great camp ground for that, its about 40 miles from the Califonia border. Be prepared for bad weather June on the coast is extremely hit and miss rain wise, shouldn't be anything new for you though since you live in Tacoma .

kinda off topic
When I was 19 I left LA on my KZ 650 heading to NY. First gas stop in Mohave dessert I must have shoved my checkbook between the gas tank and seat. Well, little did I know, it slid down and covered the air intake. Could not for the life of me get the bike over 50. Being broke and in a hurry I could not stop. Oh, it was november and rained or snowed the whole way. Made it home and threw the bike into the garage. In the spring I lifted the seat to get the manual and bingo, there was the checkbook. Started the bike and it was fine. Ultimate irony-no money in the checking acct. So yeah, 50 seems the right speed.

Thanks for all of the tips, we are looking forward to the ride and are preparing for the HOT weather. I did check out some youtube video of highway 1 and the views look great, and if it wasn't so popular (damn cagers) it would be a great ride for motocyclist.
