Been poking around looking for something to get on the cheap for the oldest to ride..

 

wouldn't mind a cheap small cruiser 250, 500, 650 etc....for him...something we can work on together...course, it'd be nice not to have to work on it at all...LOL

 

When it rains, it pours! Was getting ready to fly today...

 

did all my preflight checks...

 

ran my engine up and checked my mag's...

 

then started taxiing down the runway...

 

the engine sputtered a few times and died!

 

and would not restart

 

turned on my electric fuel pump

 

and she runs like a dream

 

Mechanical fuel pump went out

 

so i had to scrub todays flight.

 

$326.00 for a new fuel pump, should be here tomorrow.

 

I believe they are only like $30.00 for your car! Same pump, just no faa/pma stamp on them to be legal!

 

I understand that in the early 1950s you could buy a surplus P-51 for about $50k. Makes me wish I had a time machine.

 

Actually, I have a cousin that bought one for $25,000 in the early 80's. It was in decent shape and he still flys it today. Now it's worth about 2 million. What a return on your investment!

 

In the late 70's and early 80's they were hard to get rid of and nobody wanted one.

 

If I ever get rich, that will be the first airplane I buy!

 

Just damn. At $25k each, I'd mortgage the house and buy 8 or 10 of them. I'd even be willing to pay 1200 per plane to register the 6 .50 cal Brownings. I'd keep a couple for myself, sell the rest and live high for the rest of my life.

Forgot to mention, I got to ride with him once. About 30 minutes into the ride I was pleading with him to stop and let me out. He is a retired Colonel from the Air Force who was a fighter jock his whole career. Needless to say, he put the aircraft through some extreme maneuver's that took me two days to quit feeling dizzy and sick to my stomach. Looking back now, it was all good!

 

Hopefully he will be at this years family reunion and I can set up another ride.

 

He is getting pretty old, so maybe he has slowed down some and let me take the controls for awhile.

 

I have no taildragger time but once your in the air, they all fly the same.

 

I like to keep my feet on the ground for the most part...LOL
