I'm trying the "no debt" thing.. but I cant TRUELY do it.. I am in debt for my truck for another year.. my boat, and my house. But, how can you avoid that? I have cash enough to pay off the boat (almost), but it's my emergency fund, also.. No one pays cash for a house.. if you have THAT kind of scratch, it is better invested in the market or CDs.. typically you can get better return than the interest on you home loan...

So how do you REALLY keep them from "owning" you?

Good point, but you could invest the money instead of paying the house off, and if it came down to it, have enough to be able to cash out and pay off the house...That is one plan...
Also, you never really own you home or the property...let's remember you will always owe taxes...so it will never be free and clear from some kind of a payment...

And yes, people do pay cash for homes...

ok. I didnt mean NO ONE pays cash for a house.. I'm sure someone does.. Just SO FEW that they probably dont even = 1% or more..


But my point is: How does one REALLy get free from debt.. or is it even possible?
