Not "Feeling" The Need to Ride, But Want To.
Aloha,
For those of the members that do not ride out of neccessity
(commuting-saving money on gas, ect.).
I am on vacation and the "Only" thing I thought of the days before
was to Ride, Ride Every Day if Possible. Did the maintance ahead
of time(check fluids, tires, torque of fasteners, ect.) Everything
was ready before my vacation started.
Day one, a group ride was set up by another local riding group.
I stayed up most the night, couldn't sleep. Got some though.
Time came for the meeting up, just did not feel like going. Nice
day too.
Day two, another nice day. Got lots of rest the day before. Rechecked
the bikes again, deciding which to take. Decided on the VFR(better mpg).
Got gear together. Another no-go.
.
Just can't get the feeling to ride, even though I know I need it(want to)..
LOng story, sorry.
Does any one else go through this? Work was so hectic before I left.
I just need to get away for awhile, losing my "balance" in life that
used to carry me through. Guess I just got to get off my lazy butt and
do it. I know I'll feel better once I am on the road.
Anyway, thanks to those who may have read this. I feel alittle better.
The clouds are coming, maybe just a short 2 hour ride...
Ride Well All...

It doesn't sound like laziness.
What is it, if you are completely honest with yourself that is keeping you from going?
Are you afraid you will get caught up in trying to hang on to other riders? That is a legitimate concern. If you are not comfortable with the group dynamics, don't go!
If there is something in the back of your mind, that is keeping you from riding, try another approach. some of my best and most focused riding was entirely solo. I didn't even feel the need to be with other riders. Your mind gets in to a different space, when it's just you and the machine. I sometimes burned 5 or 6 tanks of fuel an a ride like that and came home spiritually inspired.
If that doesn't work, maybe it's time to hang up the leathers and find a focus that makes you happy. I see you are in Hawaii. Ever paddled with an outrigger crew? It has become my central focus in life. That and my car project.

Wanted to ride today and a day or two next week, but have rear tire with a temporary plug...new tire is on order and at least a week out. By the time the new tire gets here I'll be on vacation on the mainland, so no riding for me for maybe 3 weeks, other than a day in San Diego with my daughter's SO...the tension is already building.
If you ride all the time, it loses it's appeal. If you love banana cream pie and eat it for breakfast. lunch and supper, you'll soon lose your appetite for banana cream pie. If you party all the time, then when's the party. I've ruined several interests before I learned this lesson and how to manage my appetite. It's sucks when you overdo something you love and consequently burn yourself out on it , esp. because there is only a finite number of these special passions and when you exhaust one, you'll have to invest alot of time and energy in trying to develop another if you even can.
If you bide your time and savor your interests, you'll likely maintain a lengthy love affair. When you're in a place where the weather is rideable throughout the year, then there is no need to log miles constantly. I'm like RCVTR in that i ride for me and really don't care if I ride with anyone. While I enjoy riding with friends here and there, it's not necessary because I love to ride the twisties and it's mainly between me and me.
I try to ride as much as possible because of the seasons here in the northeast and i get so itchy during the winter i end up doing crazy ****, like making tire chains out of dog leashes or stuffing hand warmers in my gloves and boots just to get a few miles in freezin conditions.

trust your gut. If something says don't ride then don't. A few years ago i wanted to ride, it had been raining all week. So when the weather cleared I was gonna ride to work, but something told me not to. I did any way and that was the day I wrecked. Tomorrow is another day.
I commute everyday and used to take the long way home everyday, then go riding for a few hours Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. I did it solo for a few months until I got burnt out on riding. There is a local forum for riders here and we get together every Wednesday evening for a spirited ride to a dinner location, then back to town for bike night at the pub. I wasn't able to go for those few months because I have night classes on Wednesdays, ans I just got burnt out on riding alone and all the time. I didn't ride, other than to work and home, for a month and a half. While I still enjoyed the hawk, it was becoming inconvenient to gear up twice a day, every day for a boring commute.
I finished my class, but afterwards I just didn't have to drive to go for a ride, it was always one reason or another, but I really just didn't want to. That and I was burning through tires very quick and they were getting expensive. My wife finally pushed me to go on a Wednesday ride, and I am so glad I did. My area is blessed with track like roads in every direction that scarcely see a car, and we tend to use a combination of these roads as our personal race track before the dinner ride. Full leathers are necessary, and if someone shows up in jeans they are asked to stay towards the back. Anyways, getting out and pushing myself and following the lines of the more skilled riders made me love riding again. I've been doing it routinely again and love it, just not as frequent to save on tires. Get out there and just do it.
As for the tire with the plug, I rode a pilot road 2 for 3k miles with a rope plug and treated it worse than a cheap hooker. Don't be afraid of the plug if you trust the person who did it.

Dude you live on an Island, you've probably ridden over every foot of it 1000's of times. Maybe it's just Island fever.
Transport yourself and your bike to another place, NorCal comes to mind. I'm sure there's some new riding there.
