Latest acquisition
Hi folks,
I just picked up a used 1990 Yamaha DT200R yesterday. I had owned one of these about ten years ago and got nostalgic for one when I test rode a new WR250R.
For those of you not familiar with it (it was never imported into the US), it's a liquid-cooled, counterbalanced, two stroke with electric YPVS, s-x-speed tranny, just shy of 11 inchese of travel at both ends and runs real sweet (w-i-d-e powerband). The one I picked up had just over 10,000 km and needs a bit of TLC but the fixing process is already up and running. I already ordered Boyesen reeds for it and may have a look at the pipe as apparently there is a restrictor that really wakes up the engine once removed. I will the suspension re-done at both ends by my buddy, put EBC or Vesrah pads and should be good to go. I did a compression test yesterday (appreantly the previous owner had replaced the piston as a preventive measure) and it showed 135 psi so it seems to be tight.
I have the WR250 on loan from Yamaha for a long-term test but will be running it against the DT to see how it stacks up. I am curious to see how they fare...
woohoo
