I've done it on long highway rides,(which don't happen much I hate the highways), but I used really thin speakers from some head phones. I took the speakers off shoved them deep in the ear recess and kept it very low. I mean so low I could just hear it and could hear everything around me louder than the music. I think on really long rides you tend to get in a daze from the road and monotone sounds and the music can break that up. Just My rationale. But on the track....I can't see that....seems like you would want every last shred of concentration when your riding on the edge.

Actually the Earbuds suck for underhelmet use. What you need is a set of KOSS Plugs.... Ignore the audiophiles that bitch that these $15 gems aren't "quite" as good as $500 Sehnheisers.. Dollar for dollar they are the best on the market. Period.

i use the radio shack version of the koss plugs, the only difference is it has a button that cuts all sound when needed. the 1/8th plug-in even has koss stamped on it. i didn't like the stock foam that came with them, so i took a razor to a set of good ear plugs and made them fit over the tubes. they stay in much better now and don't pull out as easily. i only listen to music on long interstate rides. they cut the wind noise a lot and i can still hear the bike.

I like the KOSS because they stay in. For those that don't know, they are like earplugs in that you squeeze them before inserting them in your ears. They expand and block out road noise and pretty much stay put. They've actually helped give me an even greater need for mirror extenders or fz1 mirrors or r1 mirrors.

All we are is dust in the wind, dust in the, everything is dust in the, everything is dust in the wind........
Speeding along like a bullet from a gun,
It's a three day ride, we're gonna make it in one.
I'm back on the road and I ain't gonna stop,
Goin' to roll 'til I'm old, gonna rock 'til I drop.
Road Fever: Foghat................Live version is the best.

Sad to say that I do listen to music while i ride. Not the safest thing ever, but keeps me motivated on those long rides. Got pulled over in PA on my way home to Chicago, cop thought it was funny and didnt give me another ticket for it. LUCKY Oh Yeah!

I do it.
Definately on long rides, and sometimes on my morning commute.
I've been using a set of Sony ear buds.
Great sound and good noise ruduction, but they do make my ears a little sore if they've been in for a long time.
I used to have a set of Koss plugs back when I used a CD player in my tank bag, sheesh how archaic, but I had a hard time getting my helmet on without knocking htem out.
