How to buy a new motorcycle, cheaper

We are selling some of our toys to get my dad's favorite new bike St1300, we sold my crf150, sold his 1983 Goldwing, and trying to sell his 1997 Roadking. Once we sell the Harley we will have plenty of money for the bike and some goodies.

They are asking $12,000 for a new 2007 ST1300 non-abs, we will be taking cash. We were thinking of going $12,000 for the bike out the door(tax and title) and hoping to get some helmets out of the deal (about $600). Think this is too much? Or could we get more? They have had this bike for a while at a big dealership (Honda East Toledo).

So any advise on my situation? Or just general tips on how to get a good deal from a dealership?? thanks..

Be patient and take the time to wear them out. Keep telling them you don't NEED a new bike, so you could just leave. Tell them what you want, and don't budge until they give it to you. It took me 3 hours to buy my car, after I picked one out, but I got what I wanted!

GOOD LUCK!

On any bike on the dealer floor over three months, they usually have paid for, and are basically losing interest and blue book value on the longer it sits... so depending how bad they want to cut their loses, you never know.

I would agree, having the attitude you can leave anytime helps, but at the same time, you want them to know your dead serious on buying if the offer is right, as once they feel your just kicking tires, they usually won't negotiate. I like to tell them if they like my offer, they can put the deposit on my AMEX right now. That usually let's them know your serious.

Last point... if you do get an offer... have them write it down. When I bought my last car, I got a quote, called them back to accept, and they told me that quote didn't include the options we spoke about, which was BS. A small note from them listing the biek and deal on it with the price will aviod that situation unless they are real A$$e$, in whcih case, you don't wanna buy from them anyway.

unfortunately its actually a catch 22 when it comes to leftover inventory...

Most dealers work no a "floorplan" loan, which is basically a revolving line of credit that they use to purchase inventory, then pay for it when its sold. I would assume that if the bike has been there for a while, that they have since paid for it, and actually own it. With this being said, they are sometimes better off selling you a newer bike that is still on floorplan, because they are paying interest on those, and while they did at one time pay interest on the older bike, they are no longer paying it..

sooo... by selling a newer piece of inventory, they can actually increase profits, by cutting down the overall cost of the inventory that they will have to pay... The older one isn't going to cost any more money if its already paid for.

However, on the other side, if the dealer is needing to cash out, then selling the older one has some benifits.

In my experience, the larger dealers will sit on a older piece of inventory for whats seems like forever, because they sell enough bikes to have already absorbed the cost of that bike, and while cashing out is nice, at the same time, they spend the interest money on that bike, they don't wanna just give it away. But, sometimes, the smaller dealers are living more paycheck to paycheck in a way, and NEED to get those old bikes out to have any more spending money.

just a thought.

Now, what color???
I like the silver (07') it looks more modern and it will be cheaper

He has always liked red (08') but i think it makes it look more like an old-man bike, but i guess he is an old-man...

I know he isnt gunna pay much more for a different color anyway...
What color you guys like???
