First new Norton is delivered

First new Norton delivered to customer
Source: MCN

The first new production Norton in a generation was handed to its new owner last Friday, with further deliveries taking place throughout this week.

The limited edition Commando 961 SE was eagerly received by rider Jonathan Hewitt, 51, of Grimsby who described the experience as a “great honour”. The keys were personally handed over by Norton boss Stuart Garner.

Garner told MCN; “The significance of handing over the first bike hasn’t quite hit me yet, it’s fantastic.

"We’ve got another historic British motorcycle manufacturer back. Now Norton can hopefully build and grow, get some strength into the brand, get some more models and grow the Norton platform. It’s great for British motorcycling”.

That's a good lookin' bike!
If they do a similar job as Triumph has done, they will be around for a while.
I really miss my Tiger 1050.

Man, I've LOVED that bike since I first saw the pre-production models. Haven't been following the Norton saga since Kenny Dreer was the owner, but it's really cool to see them still trying. I wish them well.

I read one review and actually watched another (can't remember where but maybe motorcyclenews?) - probably on utube somewhere. both were really positive. said it was finished very well, and was a very good sporting bike - obviously not race rep but more monster-esque and maybe better. Really good looking bike.

here they are - both brief, but pretty cool:

I love Nortons.
When I have an extra $24,000 USD I'll pick one up.

Now THAT'S a proper motorcycle. But 24K usd? I've got lust but have reached that point in life where foolishness is neutralized by sense. At that pricing tier I'd like to move into personal custom efforts for the artistic rewards.

Boy, I hope Jonathan Hewitt (from the above photo) is at least 6'4" and 250 pounds. Otherwise, the bike looks pretty small...maybe just a little larger than an old Buell Blast.

I love Nortons too. Had a '73 Commando way back when. Loved it. Wish I'd kept it more than any other bike I sold off.

But if somebody gave me a $24k gift certificate for bikes? I'd buy an extremely nice '74 Commando 850 for $6k-$8k, spend the rest on an FJR1300 and a CBR1000RR. That's just me.
