everybody is fine.
went on a group ride today and one of the riders got wide in a corner. she pushed it back into our lane (I was directly behind her), but she lost the back tire when it went over the double yellow. when it got traction again it stood her up and shot rer directly into an oncoming cruiser with an old man and kid on it. all I remember is seeing her upside down in the air, flying over the other bike and a ton of debris in the air!
I held my line and manuvered through so i didnt see her land. she walked out of the hospital with no real injuries. I think the rider of the other bike broke his arm and the kid just got some bruises.
So here's my take on the day;
1) good thing she was wearing gear
2) other two riders not wearing gear...stupid! kid looked to be about 10.
3) group rides are dangerous!
4) both riders were too close to the yellow line. always give yourself a couple feet min in case something like this happens (on either side of the line).
5) thank God everybody is ok!

Sounds like some scary *****....
I don't like to do the group ride thing, not because of things like this but because I have bad habit of getting tunnel vision on the riders in front of me and following their lines/speed. Most of the time they're better than I am so gets me into trouble hitting turns a little too hot and making for some wider than planned turns.....but that could be just me.
Glad everyone was ok.

I have never quite understood those who ride in shorts and tank tops (and helmetless in some US states). I guess the need to look cool overrrides the need to protect one's self. They should hand out spatulas to those folks so that their skin can be quickly and conveniently peeled off the pavement when they go down....

I was in Panama, FL last week speaking of spatulas. I saw two HD riders, man and woman, riding in thier swimming suits. His was a speedo, her's a bikini, and they look like well done steaks that need to be takin off the pit.
