Do moderators get moderated?

Just a quick question for the great people running this forum..

Who watches over the moderators..? who is on top of them?

also, whats a moderators job.. Is it to keep the forum clean and help moderate posts/threads?

I don't believe they do. There is nothing "above" the moderators, they have the power to authorize, delete, ban, etc. They can even edit our posts (I think).

  1. Site Owner
  2. Administrator
  3. Moderator designated by site owner to handle additional tasks
  4. Moderator

Moderator Authorized actions and capabilities are set by the Site owner or Admin, limited at times by the site software.. Some things only an Admin can do.(change the layout of the forum, set Mod permissions, ect). somethings can only be granted globally to Moderators (if one can do it all can do it) Somethings can be set for different Moderators.

Moderator Responsibilities:
General Forum Maintenance

* Move posts to the appropriate themed forum if posted in the wrong place.

* Delete duplicate posts. If the same post is posted across multiple forums, leave the post in the correct forum (or move it there) and delete the remaining duplicates.

* If we see posts that are only directed at a single member, delete the post and PM the author, suggesting that they use a PM instead. The forums are public after all not a one on one exchange that excludes all others.

* Take the time to welcome new members as you see them.

SPAM
* Posts from recently registered members (typically newbies) that contain links promoting (for example) “Win a free Ipod!” or “Get paid to browse the Internet!” are removed.

And no we do not purposely use the edit users post function to change what you wrote....(unless asked) However the edit button is right next to the reply button on a MOD's screen.. occasionally (me) we have clicked that button and edited a users post by accident... The one time I did that, I PM'ed the author and explained my screw up.

This site takes very little Moderating .. users normally interact well.. The Ban list has only two names on it I see with a quick look, that were not spammers.. and both of those were folks were deemed untrustworthy by many members who lost money or parts to them and the moderating group concurred.

jonjonsocal if you have some specific concern, PM a MOD, the one you have an issue with, or another.

Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong Erik, there are 3 right now. Myself, Erik and Randman are all moderators. Greg N (Hawkrider) is the Admin, so if you need to go "above" a mod, he's your guy.
If you are having an issue, we're more than willing to help.
