Anyone else Retired?

I taught my last class last week after 34 years teaching Vocational Automotives at the same Adult Ed campus in Garden Grove, CA. When I started teaching in 1974, most cars coming into our 10 bay shop had 4 wheel drum brakes, carburetors, breaker point ignition, and no computers. And 90% were American cars with V8 engines.

I had several other occupations prior to teaching, and I've worked full time since I was 16. So now I'm ready to play....surfing, riding, mountain bikes, hiking...all with my wife.

Are any other Forum members retired? I know there are a few of us old farts.

Oahu, we could go for a ride if I could figure out how to ride on water to get over there. But then I'd want to bring a board too.

I was in Navy Reserve, 2 years active duty, '67 & '68.

Somebody here say you should re-tire every year, another every other year.

I'm going to retire about 30 seconds after I win the Super Lotto.

that'd be cool...I usually ride alone, unless I can coax my son ('07 CBR600RR) away from his busy schedule for an early morning Sunday ride...

Since today was Groundhog Day, I'm destined to repeat it.

Surf (usually best in the morning), eat, nap, ride....repeat.

Just curious, what's better surfing or riding?

That's a tough one. Surfing is more work...paddling out, getting pounded by the waves on larger days, being cold in the winter, and each ride only lasts for seconds, but offers a thrill that's hard to describe. And if you make a mistake, you just fall in the water.

Riding involves more risk (hard landing if you crash and cars), but a good canyon run can equal the thrills of surfing...carving turns and accelerating out of them. And you can still ride a motorcycle when the waves are flat or blown out.

I get grouchy when I haven't done either for a while.

I'm medically retired, but I'm only 23 so I'm pretty sure I don't count, I think I'll wait for my second retirement before I truly say I'm "retired".

Congrats and God bless. I'm really happy to see someone who looks like they know what to do with their retirement and how to enjoy it. I'm sure you're going to have a blast!
