Noob Question - 1997 VTR1000 F/S

A friend of a friend has one for sale and is asking $3000,00 for it. I just texted him to get the exact odometer reading so i can share it here as well but wanted to know if this is a good or average deal for this bike.

About me: My wife and I just got our licenses last month. We have a 2008 Ninja 250r that we share but that has gotten OLD.! We each need our own. Is this bike too much for me? I feel the Ninja is really under powered but this is four times the bike.! I stand 5 foot 7 and being I haven't seen it in person am also concerned that it will be to tall for me to be comfortable on.

I haven't see the bike in person but was told I could later this week. He said it has minor damage to a fairing and he priced it our at $70.00 to replace. Once I see it i'll take pictures of it and post them but for now my quick question is: The seller is asking $3000.00 this seams high to me... Is it?

Milage?, Mods? Condition? Service History? Consumables? Any pics?

Have the CCTs and R/R been upgraded?

'97 is the earliest year they were produced - IIRC '98 was when they first appeared in US

As for price of replacement parts check here:

well without knowing any details i would say that is a fair price-
whether or not it will fit you or is too much for you - test ride it before you buy ,see if it is comfortable for you, it will definately be different than your ninja 250 but that is what throttle control is about. good luck with it

I actually hate to say it but it's probably worth about $2500, that's what they're going for out here on Craigslist though there is one guy that wants 4K for his..good luck with that.

Yes the '98 model year sold in the US but they were being sold in '97. The VIN tags say 1998 with build dates in '97, so you might want to check that also....

Agreed, prices can vary depending on how much the owner invested in the bike, but you must first see if the bike even fits you, also keep in mind that it is more like a cult bike and not the average CBR.
Now, if you had the license only for one month, I would say it is a big bike to start with even as the next step after the ninja 250, but then again it all depends on the rider and how you control the beast . Definitely test ride it first!!!

All thanks for the replies... Just heard back it has 8K on it. I don't have any other info on it till I go see it. As far as I recall the guy mentioned it was 100% stock.

Again - Thanks for the input. I just don't want to over pay for it.

A '98?
Just sold one. It's more important for the seller than the buyer for the sale to be made.
$2,500 if everything is intact, unscratched unbroken with fresh rubber on it and the charging system working. Deduct for every fault. My bet is that the owner has only one prospect, YOU.

I'm still complaining that I let it go way to cheaply. But there it is. . .reality.
