Unhappy engine needed

hello everyone.....

here's the story,
I let a local Honda dealer put cct in my 98. I was out of town on business and did not have the time. I wanted to be able to ride soon as I got back. when I...yes I had to call them 2 days after I was told I would be able to pick it up, they informed me that she had a top end tick. when I got back I listened and sure enough she has head tap noise. no noise prev to them working on her. I checked the valve clearances all good, the chains ect all good. I am a master Tech and just did not have time to work on her, I will from now on though.

long story short...does anyone have a good engine for sale? please pm me if you do. I am from Georgia, but I am in the Cincinnati are for the next few weeks.

Thank you all

Not to highjack your thread, but just a tick in the top end doesn't mean a new engine. This could be caused by a loose CCT or even just a valve with out of spec clearance.

Ticking

Just my 2 cents here. It would be alot simpler and cheaper to disassemble and inspect a few things, rather than replace a whole engine on the count of a ticking noise. You being a master mechanic should have no problem finding a simpler solution. As I said, just my 2 cents.

I know it would be simpler to do a tear down diagnosis, but it is deep, possibly valve seat, strecthed wrist pin ect. when I do a tear down it will be with many many pictures so I can hold those responsible just that, responsible.
I checked all the easy items, cct...replaced. cct chains good with no burring ect. valve clearance in spec. I made an offer on the one on ebay, he would not tell me the mileage and declined my offer. back 2 square 1 (

When do you get the ticking? At idle or when accelerating?

Ticking

Did you check your cam timing? Even if it is right, it is possible that they had it wrong and ran the bike like that! All it takes is 1 second to have the piston hit a valve. Where is this dealer located?

Yeah, I think they goofed and then tried to cover it up. Take it apart and look for a bent valve. Also check the piston decks. It they hit - it will show!

RCVTR is an unknown quantity at this point
Changing CCTs is like a 1 hour job, if you take your time.

It's a simple, step by step process. If the engine is in the timing position for each cylinder, you can't screw it up.

I don't understand...

That's why I do my own work. I won't even let somebody change the oil in my truck. The last time I did, the skid plate fell off on the highway and I ran over it.
