VFR Bar ends, vs...VTR bar ends

Ok, so my bikes PO put on VFR bars, and my question is: the screw that would hold your bar ends on....is it a larger screw than the stock handle bars??? I ordered bar-ends for the superhawk and the screw is too small...What size is the VFR screws?? If anyone knows?? TIA

Nortth is the man to answer this as he recently did the same thing. Sorry, I don't recall what he did.

I'm not totally sure what I did when I had VFR bars either. I sold him my set. I think I drilled out some cheap generic spares and used surplus screws I had laying.

Re: VFR Bar ends, vs...VTR bar ends

That is what I think I am going to have to do....I bought some carbon fiber look bar ends, they showed up didn't fit, so I e-mailed the seller, he sent me another pair, same thing.,...so I am drilling the one set I don't like as a test set....the screws that are needed are the same size screws that fit the wifes bike, ninja----bar ends....so at least I can get replacements based on that...

Thanks for the input...

Re: VFR Bar ends, vs...VTR bar ends

I bought a set of new "Stock" bar ends and matching bolts from Ron Ayers OEM for my VFR bars.... needless to say the bolt threads match the bars, but the hole in the bar end itself is smaller than the bolt diameter.... so I'd venture to say there is some magical combo that matches out there (bar, bolt, and end)... but drilling the end out is probably easier than figuring that mess out....

Ya, Superhawk bar ends are totally different as they have longer bolts and the end of the bar is notched so the bar end can't spin.

There are at least two different bolt sizes for the VFR bars ends (6mm and 8mm?) depending on the year and the bar end is flush.

Ya, Honda he he

They're about $25 or $30. Just try out a bolt in the end first to see which ones they are

A bench grinder solves a lot of problems QUICKLY!

Thinking about this some more: I used stock honda units from my 02 VFR. These also have the locking tab and a smaller bolt hole. I ground off the tab, drilled out the holes and used a larger sized bolt than the stock superhawk item.

Or you can use correct VFR items. Or aftermarket units but those are probably getting hard to find now-a-days.

Re: VFR Bar ends, vs...VTR bar ends

This is good to know as I got VFR bars this past summer. Didn't install them though as I was a bit nervous because they will not have the tab as the stock ones do ie not as secure? Am I worrying for nothing?

Yup, the stock ones with their locking tabs will dent the tank just fine. The bar itself bends even tho' the riser is lock with the tab to the top triple.

Re: VFR Bar ends, vs...VTR bar ends

I think I set the record for the most hours waisted on one single project that is almost insugnificant to anything....I finally took a hacksaw to the tabs, man those things are tuff , and drilled the holes....Then the bolts I got had to be counter sunk, so I was in search of a counter sink bit...ahh finally found one, very slow process.....then to cut the grips just right, especially the throttle, don't want it to stay wide open when you let go....

They do look good IMHO.....But I would HIGHLY recommend, Buy the barends that fit your bars!!!! I didn't know ....famous last words...

Re: VFR Bar ends, vs...VTR bar ends

Oh my God, you have not even shipped them yet!!! Holy Crap, I took my wheels off 3 days ago expecting them to be here this week....Man what a Bunch of Crap!!!

Gottcha...lol...that was kind of fun....Just kidding, like I said, no rush....they are just back up...I live in a new community plagued with construction, screws and nails everywhere...So I expect to pick one up anytime now....been lucky so far...this way I don't have to drop $225 plus shipping on a set for no good reason....At least not until later this summer....
