Valve clearance feeler gauge

First time checking valve clearance. (2001 16K miles PO never checked)

Been searching for a while can't find a feeler gauge with 0.01 mm increments anywhere.

Am I being neurotic..but the ones at car parts store don't cover the range exactly. Intake is 0.16+/-0.03 or 0.13 to 0.19
Closest standard sizes converted to mm are .127 and .203.

Is that good enough?

Check Mitutoyo tools. High quality, and you'll find what you're looking for.

Found at any snap on tool truck you happen across and under $12
Gauge, Feeler, Metric, General Use, 20 blades (.05 mm thru 1.00 mm)
Stock#: FBM320

Product Specifications
Stock # FBM320
Name Gauge, Feeler, Metric, General Use, 20 blades (.05 mm thru 1.00 mm)
Price** $11.60
Brand Blue Point
Country Of Origin USA
Description Metric Feeler Gauge Set
Blade Dimensions, inches 1/2 x 3
Blade Size .05 mm–1 mm
Increments .05 mm

Mitutoyo has a reference gauge set PN 950-252
that has the range needed but the step is in .001" (.0254mm)

I've not seen a feeler gauge leaf set that has a .01mm step.. Im sure there is one in the world of machine tools, but .01mm step is not needed for valve clearances on this bike

I s eem to remember my old Blue Point .0015 in my old lost box. It was for intake valves on CB450's and 500's. Thinist blade I ever had!

Same here. I still have them actually but they are bit rusty and useless now. And and the numbers have faded on the good blades. IIRC There's about 50 different size feelers on them. Best feelers I ever had. I say had because they are no use now LOL

I just checked mine. I have a set of the Matco offset feeler gauges and just used the standard measurement since that spec is also in the manual. It comes in .001" increments. Still sucks to find just one stupid valve all of .001" too tight!

Got the one from Snap on. Rear clearances all in spec. ran out of time to tackle the front will do that this weekend.

One other question. May belong in a new post.......but when I took off the tank it sounded like I had a bunch of loose nuts and bolts inside. Tilt the tank side to side or front to back sounds like something is loose inside. I have a 2001....wondering if this is normal (fuel gauge innards or tip over sensor) or if the PO actually dropped something in the tank? Will have to drain the tank and see I whats going on in their.

There may be a datatag/microchip anti theft type device rattling around in there. You know the type of security device that helps track down stolen parts. The only way your going to know is to drain the tank and fish it out.

Found this rattling around in the tank (see pic). Fished it out with a magnetic pick up tool.

I think its a piece of the fuel sender unit. Fuel gauge seems to be working (2001 model). But I'm guessing I need it or Honda wouldn't have put it their. Will have to take the sender unit out and see if I can re attach.

Removing the front cylinder head cover was not fun. One exhaust valve was tight (.28mm) rest were good.
