Tire tubes...?

As many of you might know, I have a slight pinhole leak in the rim of my CF front. Someone who is usually pretty smart suggested i put a tube in there to hold the air...

What does everyone think?

I can see the benefits, of course. But what sort of problems would i be facing?

Is it a good idea in the first place?

it'd work as a temporary solution.. however with a CF rim, I'd want to get that fixed.. so do it till you can find a replacement to use while you send in the CF one for repair.

Ya, i have a deal going to get replacement rims, so i can ship off the CF ones... just takes time.

So it would be ok to do for a few months?

Very risky...you wouldn't find me ever doing this. With excessive heat build up, the tube could explode inside the tire.

I have never heard of it being a danger, just not necessary. I'd think the bigger danger is his CF rim delaminating.

The rim isnt delaminating, its got a small pinhole leak about 2 inches away from the stem on the inside of the rim. I just get really tired of airing up EVERYDAY

I run tubes in my SuperMoto Tires on the street.

Tires are High performance SportBike tires. 120 on the front and 160 on the rear.

No big deal, other than the SuperMoto weighs in at 245 pounds, but she will run 100MPH.

lots of questions come up with tubes. heat, weight, balancing. 75 BMW has tubes and I'm surprised how often I still get flats. Easier fix though. Anyone ever use any of the sealer/dynamic balancing **** in their tires or tyres?

Why not fix the leak? Cant you sand the inside and get some resin, even if it were to be a fast setting glue-epoxy it will fix the issue.

that's what i was wondering. does it look like some kind of structural deficiency around the pinhole or is it just a clean pinhole....**** who am i kidding... i know nothing about carbon fiber and i'd be paranoid of delamination

gotta agree with the huys on carbon fiber and I was a paint and body tech for many, many years...if you dont have the correct tools to work the fibre, DO NOT DO IT. you may weaken the resin bond and cause further damage.

as far as a tube.... I have run them before with no issue. be sure it is the correct size and application for your bike.

Personally I would never do this.

Putting the tubed tire inside the tubeless tire would generate double the heat, and could lead to instability, tube shifting around, or getting pinched.

With tires you never want to half ***, especially on a motorcycle! Tires are the only thing that keep us upright. Trust me going down sucks.

It's not that big a deal, really. Of course the best solution is to get wheels that don't leak, but a tube won't cause instability and it won't cause the tire to get dangerously hot.
The Ducati Sport Classic series bikes have modern tubeless tires but use tubes because of the spoked wheels.
Use a tube until you get the wheel fixed.
