Tank ?
Does anyone know if a 1998 gas tank is the same as a 2002. Capacity / shape
They do have different part numbers which suggests they are different. I was wanting to change my 02 (damaged) tank and swap those parts to a new but older 98 tank.
Thanks

If you're in the US they're the same. Later model European tanks had a larger capacity.
Welcome aboard. Don't be afraid to use the search function, it's much faster and you can get alot of information quickly without having to wait for individual responses.

Even in the USA they are different.. But not in capacity or shape.
The older tanks (pre 01) have either the vent line or the over flow line inside the tank in a different place I forget which. This means that the float for the fuel gauge from the newer tank will hit the line and not get full movement.. So your fuel gauge will either not work or only work for part of the fuel movement.
This problem can be somewhat dealt with by modifying the length of the float arm to allow it to clear the line, however it changes your fuel gauge making the top bar disappear in a few short miles.
Yruyur ran into this when we converted his 98 to the newer style instruments.
