Tail section removal problem - RR failure

RR went out on the bike this week. Happened to be in full leathers in 90+ degree heat. Had a short push to a gas station and a buddy with a trailer nearby, so it could have been worse.

Got a RR on order, but when I went out to pull the plastic tail section off, the two hex head bolts (at front near tank) are spinning inside the frame. It's like the nut in the frame is spinning with the screw. I tried putting some needle nose pliers in between the tail section plastic and the square frame to hold the spinning nut but no luck. Anybody else have this problem?

I did put on some PB blaster and it's currently soaking. Gonna have another go at it this afternoon. I'll try a high speed drill on the screw while I try to hold with the needle nose and see if that does it. Any tips would be great.

Jay

Yeah I had the same problem once. May not be the most sophisticated fix but I drilled a SMALL hole on the top of the subframe and held the threaded part that's spinning enough with a flat screwdriver so I could unscrew the bolt.

Good idea. I'll give that a shot if I can't get it this way. Thanks!

Something smells burnt...

Drilled the holes and then had to drill a couple smaller holes into the nut. Then I held it in place with a small phillips screwdriver. Finally came off. Good thing too, my RR decided to go out with a bang... time for a new connector.
